Congrats! out of nowhere two good players for BVB,not bad, unfortunately for them they aiming for the 2nd place(again) :D

I know very little about Mkhtaryan to be honest.

What I know though is that I can't think of any star player from the Ukrainian or Russian leagues aside from Ivanovic who made it big at an international top club.

Arshawin, Pavlyuchenko, Jô, Elano and Chygrynskiy were major flops. Skrtel and Tymshchuk at least missed the expectations by quite a margin...

Nemanja Vidic did great too
But shakhtar players play at high level and are used to play vs european powerhouses, so the risk is much lower

Vidic and Ivanovic. Two players in one decade is still not a convincing statistic.

Sheva was bought by Milan straight from Kiev. Can't say he did too poorly. :P

That would make a difference if my argument was that nobody made the breakthrough but it's not.

Three players in 15 years? That's still noteworthy but in a bad way.

Shakhtar have done very good in getting lots of money from City and Dortmund to be honest. Good business from them if you ask me :D

Well, there's Olic (surely I don't need to elaborate), Krasic (his first season at Juve was pretty good), Zhirkov (had a fine time at Chelski), going further back there's Karpin, of course, Kaladze was very successful at Milan (so much so he's the current minister of energy in Georgia), Kinkladze had great success at City back in the day.

I'm not even disagreeing with you, by the way, I'm just thinking of some names. :P

Sorry but if you name Krasic and Zhirkov then you truly didn't understand my intentions. Zhirkov was never more than a rotation player for Chelsea and Krasic was a flop. One good season or not and it had his reasons why Juventus departed from him sooner rather than later.

They both failed to establish themselves as top players in Europes biggest leagues. They weren't even close. In my opinion they are even crown examples of overrated eastern stars.

Olic doesn't fit the bill because he never was a star in Russia or Ukraine. I was talking about star players from those leagues who come to other European top leagues and disappoint. There are quite a few of them.

No idea, Ive been away. But if Kicker.de and Ruhrnachrichten.de agree he is a done deal then its probably true.

25 mio wouldnt be so bad but I dont rate Mkhitaryan very highly. He is a very decent player no doubt but Im not convinced he has the necessary magic in his game if you know what I mean. :P
