I wouldn't call his entire time a failure. He got them to the CL twice, which isn't a given at that club, and he brought out a number of talents like Tah, Henrichs, lately Havertz, and not to forget Bellarabi who was written off as a failure and about to be loaned to another 2nd division club. And there were no more 7-0 trashings in the European competition while he was there. However last season was a mixed bag already and this season has been terrible, especially considering the squad he's had at his disposal. Especially the defense has been shocking, which is a bit puzzling as in the last two seasons they had one of the best defenses in the league.

Tayfun Korkut will take over for the rest of the season. Favre, Nagelsmann and Martin Schmidt are on the wishlist for summer.

They should go for the latter.
Even the Koln and Freiburg ones are interesting.

l think their problem relies on squad planning rather than a coach problem.since, firstly, they have a very young team, 3 of their back line is young and Toprak is not the ideal player to lead the backline. secondly, their midfield is soft, as they lack a warrior there, thirdly, they depend on Chicharito so much. After all, if they want to reach the next level, they should make better squad planning and should have a mix of youth and experience, cuz they went for youth too much.

They need a proper defensive midfielder and a coach that doesn't play such an "extremely high risk" game.
Get the defense in order in terms of squad planning and in terms of tactics.

Ottmar Hitzfeld: "Christian Streich is my coach of the year."

According to SPORTBILD, Freiburg's coach Christian Streich is a top candidate to become Bayer Leverkusen's coach.
