I couldn't agree more. This is a summer topic, people. We'll be having a lot of non-footballing spare times ;)

About Gomez, he did score a lot of goals, but with him as a starter we didn't win a SINGLE prize. Not even a DFB pokal.
Dieter Hoeness I'm not so sure either, he managed ovnly 6 NT caps, he can't have been that outstanding of a player then.

Expanded the list to 42. Added Klose as well, he may not be seen as a succes at Bayern, but that's because of his last season. Before that he had two very good seasons and was CL topscorer before his injury. And lets not forget. He is 2nd World cup top scorer ever tied with Gerd.

Now if this season we win the treble then Players like Robben, Muller can join the list.
In a few years hopefully players like Alaba, Kroos, Martinez can join the list. And who knows, if Dante stays important for a few more seasons even he can make it!

Yes definitely. I never understood the Klose was a failure comments.

I would like to recommend Jean-Pierre Papin, Werner Olk and Christian Ziege for the list.
I wish my memory is better course there was surely more great players in our history.

this is really a brain twisting and mind pondering task, the top 50 bayern stars of all times, for me, these stars are maker of history. History, like winning the champions league. one must strive for the best and nothing but the best. so, that list would be incomplete without Oliver Kahn.

Kuffour headbutted Bohme when he was handed a red card. Bayern were eliminated from the German Cup after the 2-0 defeat. [source]

Dante might make it there one day but I don't think you can put him there after just one season.

Pizarro might deserve a place among the strikers as well.

This is a list about Bayern legends. He wasn't even close to being a legend.

He left Bayern in what is supposed to be the prime time for a defender, aged 29. He went to Roma ON A FREE TRANSFER (as Bayern didn't even want to extend his contract) and he couldn't cut it to the extent that they loaned him out all over the place, to Livorno and Ajax before finishing his career at Asante Kotoko. And in 2007 aged 31, he went on trial with Sunderland but he failed to make the cut.

His being on the list is an insult to the other players that were left out. In my books, I'd rate van Buyten, Demichelis, Badstuber, Dante, Boateng and Ismael ahead of him.

Only good thing he did was scoring in the Intercontinental Cup.

Brutal. I mean, you are the first person to use the word "legend" in this thread, and everything else you said is completely irrelevant to his service at Bayern (which spanned for over 10 years and included many of our most memorable moments, for better or worse).

Well, I guess the headbutting thing is pretty bad, I mean, noone in our modern squad or in that 50-odd player list would never... oh.

Kuffour was great. Except he peaked a lot earlier than most defenders which is why the end of his carreer was so bad. Nobody is saying he was a Beckenbauer or Matthaus, but Kuffour is an Africa legend. I was in Guinee a few weeks ago, one of the world's poorest countries, where they speak no English and I speak no French. And when I mentioned the word Bayern to anybody, they all enthousiastically responded with "Sammy Kuffour!!" despite not being able to communicate a single other word. Some of the older people even have old Bayern shirts with Kuffour which they would have gotten as gifts from visiting Europeans. That's right, they have no electicity, no tap-water, no gas, but they have a Bayern shirt, thanks to that guy.

This guy is a legend for that continent or at least that part of the continent.
Indeed, for Bayern he is no legend, but definitely among the Bayern greats, and is deservedly on this list!
