Real Madrid is our only Euro rival. You can say that Man United have also played interesting part, though, it's still nothing compared to those clashes with Real Madrid. We did play against United I'll shoot it, 7 times in the last 16 years, but that wasn't characterized not even close as Real Madrid games despite we never played a single final against them.

However, match Bayern - Real became derby because of the two completely different worlds - on one side traditional place who still was relying on everything German, loyalty was the most important thing, bla bla, you can count till tomorrow. and on the other side arrogant Real, the best club of 20th century, record transfers, Los Galacticos, jet-set, etc. Humble Bayern(what wasn't the case in German media) against shiny Real.
That match in 2006/2007 demonstrated the best if it, despite we had problems through whole Bundesliga season, these 2 matches had nothing in common nor they were linked with the rest of the season. Story for itself.

2011-2012, fantastic display, so much passion, tempo, fire on the pitch, drama... I spoke with a lot of people, they all said incredible 90 minutes in which many things were happening and it ended so fast. You ask youself how many matches can you recall in the past. The first what comes to my mind are Chelsea-Barcelona clash 2004/2005 & 2005/2006, Milan-Deportivo 2003/2004. Fantastic battles.
Cada loco con su tema.

That back heel by Madjer still haunts me

But I wonder if Real Madrid fans, the real ones, feel the same about our rivalry.

They are more busy than us right now, but in the past they were too.

Agreed but I predict it to become a modern rivalry. I think we will face each other many times in the coming years.

Definitely Real Madrid, however, I must admit, the 1 solitary vote for AC Milan, is mine...

That period between 2002 and 2007 where it felt like we faced them every single year in the Champions League only to lose, had me at my wits end...

Oh man...if there's one player I hated at that time, with every fibre of my being, it was Inzaghi and I still can't stand the guy

You really could add Rangers to that list. Bayern won their first European Trophy (Cup Winners Cup) against Rangers in Nürnberg, and likewise Rangers on the way to winning the same competition beat Bayern.

They have also crossed paths on numerous other occasions throughout the 1970's -1990's.

I'm not saying it's a rivalry as such, just a historic fixture for both clubs whenever it occurs.

I guess the question isn't really time related, just which rivalry stands out.

In that case, I'd have to go Real Madrid. We are the 'Bestia Negra' afterall!

Is money club a negative for you? Or do you just mean to say Bayern is in a rivalry with clubs with similar means? ;)
