A nice looking stat for us, mainly due to Neuer's top-class goalkeeping. We are not yet as good in defense as these stats show.

We have this stat without yet playing with our main two CBs. One (i.e. half) of the goals we conceded was with Bernat, Martinez, Kimmich and Rafinha in defence, none of which would be playing in an important match if everyone was fit. The other goal conceded was a catastrophic error by Neuer. I think we're good, really, at least in the defensive apartment.

Friendly reminder that so far this season, Thiago is statistically speaking the best in his position in all of Europe. :coffee:
She’s beauty, she’s grace, if u tell her she only watches football for the attractive players she’ll punch u in the face.

Total ho for Thiago :P

I'd correct that and say the "goalkeeping" department instead. The stats do look good but are not reflective of the truth. Without Neuer's excellence, the two goals scored might have easily been around 7-8 as far as I recall.

The average of shots against us is almost 1 shot less than what it was 1 year ago in this phase...

We played two of the very best defensive teams this season and we choked... we have to improve, no doubt.

We've rotated much more than what we expected, right? That's another stat.

Hummels better than all the Czech Republic

What is packing?

BILD explains the new EM data

"I do not know what that is. But nice that I am second." Jerome Boateng yesterday at the DFB press conference.

Boateng and Hummels, both outplayed 212 opponents - the highest measured value for a pair of central defenders since data collection!

Explanation: Packing is a new form of game analysis that determines how many opponent's defenders are outplayed by a player or a team before the goal is scored.

Hummels outplayed 118 opponents of which 14 were opponent's defenders.

In addition to him, Bayern defense colleague Jérôme Boateng, who was the first to outplay 94 Czechs.

Another reason why Alonso is not needed.

"Packing"

Get this, World Cup 2010, GER-ENG, Neuer outplaying 10 players in one play...

BS IMHO...

Penaltykickstat was looking for significant over- or underperformer concerning penalty kicks. For one thing he found Man City to be unexpectedly good at converting their own and not conceding their opponent’s penalties. On a sidenote he also found out that Bayern concedes 16% less penalties than could be expected.

The history of football analytics is a brief one, at least compared to other (north American) sports and thus the guys over at FiveThirtyEight invited Mike Goodmann to talk about the three eras of analytics in soccer/football in their stat school podcast episode.
