Yes, and as old as he is let us not forget that we still have Tymo, who is somewhere in the middle between the two.

He's had good performances too, and his long shot is great. Tymo's main problem seems to be short passing.

Tymo has lost his Zenit-thunderbolt. Thee main reason we bought him Is because he did well against us anyway
His passing is awful, his turning is terrible, he can't shoot AS well anymore, his shots were O.K but only FAIRLY renowned, and as I said, it was kind of a weaken-Zenit move. At least our friends in Moscow are happy :P (CSKA, not Dynamo)

Tymoshchuk was a world class CDM with zenit
And we signed him in the last days of Klinsmann because Van Bommels future was not decided

Then LVG came and van bommel extended leaving Tymoshchuk in deep sh1t

Yep -- that's what changed things for Tymo.

I still think he was good enough to get more minutes than he actually did in his first two seasons, but LVG was a stubborn coach after all.

I was going to say I'd like to see Gustavo doing the sole DM gig on a 1-4-1-4; him beign the defensive in-between liners. Then I remember that first goal against blunder vs Dortmund in the Pokal final.... #-o

We could have won that game if it wasn't for that downer goal.

Kroos

Pros
Great distribution of the ball. (Long and short passing)
Through Balls
Shooting from Distance

Cons
To slow and systematic
Can get roughed up a bit
Trys to be too much like Schweinsteiger?

Gustavo

Pros
Solid in the Tackle
Can sit and cover the defence which allows Full Backs and Schweinsteiger to go forward
Quick distribution

Cons
Prone to giving the ball away
Sometimes lack of experience in positioning, caught under the ball.

What is quite unique about the situation we have with Kroos and Gustavo, is that one players strenghts are the other players weakness, and really the choice between them should be down to how they play with Schweinsteiger and who the opposition are!

This. Depending on the opposition, we can use either Kroos or Gustavo (with Tymo as backup mainly). Personally I would prefer Gustavo tbh as I see Kroos as a weaker, almost girlish version of Schweini...

I think that Gustavo next to Scwensteiger is needed in big games against equal opponents, fronted by Muller/Kroos.

Gustavo was a machine against Madrid.

Yeah, shades of van Bommel in how long he managed to stay without a yellow card in the return leg.

It depends what position. If you speak defensively then Gustavo will be the right choice, although an CAM Kroos can do much better than Gustavo.
