Greatest Ever Bayern Squad

Postby nur4bayern » Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:50 am

Wikipedia lists the greatest ever Bayern squad from a 2005 fan based poll as follows:
GK Sepp Maier
DF Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck
DF Franz Beckenbauer
DF Klaus Augenthaler
DF Paul Breitner
MF Stefan Effenberg
MF Mehmet Scholl
MF Lothar Matthaus
FW Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
FW Gerd Muller
FW Giovane Elber

Manager Ottmar Hitzfeld

Of course we can debate whether to do it based on a 4-4-2 BUT to keep it simple let's stick to the format listed here, 4-3-3.

Anyway, hard to argue with those selections but it's been five years since that poll was taken. Have their been any players since then that should be considered? Or should there be changes based on other factors? For example, should Kahn be ahead of Maier or at least equal? The list is nearly all German, should there be some foreigner's to consider besides Elber? What about the manager? Lattek could be a consideration.

Ok, have at it.

I would have to include either 1 of Philip Lahm or Willy Sagnol. I would have to go with Lahm because he is consistently one of our best players season in and out. WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SCHWEINI in there but with Effenberg, Scholl and Matthaus..he has no chance...That is the best midfield.

So the only change I can see in that lineup is inserting Philip Lahm in there for either Beckenbauer or Breitner :S. If thats the situation I think I will put Lahm in the lineup instead of Breitner. This is too difficult. Breitner score way more goals in the 78-83 era but we were really unlucky then. I do not think I can make any changes to this lineup all I can do is insert the substitutions. :D.

GK Sepp Maier
DF Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck
DF Franz Beckenbauer
DF Klaus Augenthaler
DF Paul Breitner
MF Stefan Effenberg
MF Mehmet Scholl
MF Lothar Matthaus
FW Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
FW Gerd Muller
FW Giovane Elber

Reserves Bench
GK Oliver Khan
DF Philip Lahm
DF Willy Sagnol
MF Bastian Schweinsteiger
MF Michael Ballack
ST Roy Maakay

Honorable Mentions
Bixente Lizarazu
Franz Roth
Uli Hoeneß

actually Bayern Munich homepage made a poll like that

and i remember that the results are the same (maybe this Lineup is the exact one made by the Bayern Homepage )

HOWEVER, I Agree with 10 players , But as GK

I Think it would be Tough Between Kahn and Sepp Maier

Both Won everything with FCB , and some Inhuman suff

Yeah I would put Kahn above Maier too.

Anyways its really hard as there were so many great bayern players over the years. I mean even in the past decade we already have three magnificent FBs in Lahm, Lizarazu and sagnol. Its very hard to choose.

I agree that Lahm has to be in there somewhere. It's tough since the formations and style has changed over the years, no more sweeper position for example. Maybe there should be a classic line up and a modern one. Then the ultimate XI would look a bit differently.

I'd put Kahn over Maier, but then I'm too young to remember Maier playing, so all I know about this legendary GK is from what I've heard.

its difficult between kahn and maier. Maier probably edges because he was the long term gk coach of oliver kahn. I agree with rest of the team.

Ok, I do not agree with several stuff here (Van Bommel, Van buyten, Ballack, even thomas Muller (who is still too young), as well as putting Makaay ahead of Gerd Muller. But including Rafinha is just...
