But really, a deal that's twice as much as the one they had with Aon? #-o and I heard GM's chief marketing officer resigned (or got fired?) after making the deal. What's up with that?!

And I couldn't agree more, Bayern does need to have a larger global presence. Sadly, most of the people I know who aren't faithful football followers are only aware of either ManU, Barca or RM. Maybe we can do more of those pre-season tours like the one in China. Or we can also sign players from different parts of the world! like what ManU did with Kagawa. Now ManU is even more popular here in Asia. :x

Did you knew that Bayern earn even more with merchandising than Manu, Real, Barca or someone else? It is really so. If you imagine that Bayern earn some 100 - 150 Mio. less about TV rights than the big English, Spanish and Italian Ones than it is logically that the money has to come from somewhere else. I can´t remember right now where i red this numbers but you can believe me, it is so.
An other interesting fact is that when the Arena is owened around 2020 than the Club has some 25 - 30 Mio more to spend for example in Transfers.

I think the big difference between Bayern and the "other" big ones like Manu, Real, Barca, Juve, Milan, Arsenal ect. is not the lack of a global presence but the perception. In all this clubs some big players played some time (or still) except Bayern. Probably Robben and Ribery was the first one´s to call them worldclass in the Bayern team. Of corse there is also Oliver Khan or Beckenbauer earlyer - forgett about them because they came fore a little money. What I mean is a club´s perception in the world depands on how much he can spend for "big" players and Bayern achieved this rule only some years ago because they always worked in a (let us call it) konservative way (that means whitout getting into debt).
But the financial potencial is probably the biggest all over the world and it will become much stronger over the next years.

The main reason why Bayern are not as popular as other big clubs worldwide is lack of Bundesliga coverage, I think. Of course it doesn't help that pre-2010 we didn't do very well in Europe for a few years.

I think this will change. Bayern are now re-established as one of the best teams in the world, and the Bundesliga is on the rise. We bought Usami last year and visited China this year, and the Bundesliga in general is becoming appealing for Asian players. This might increase the league's popularity there. I do not know what is going on in the US but judging from this forum I think we have a fair number of supporters there.

You can also help promote the club yourself. Here in Malta 95% of the population supports Italian and English clubs. However most of my friend have grown to sympathise with Bayern just because of me (although of course they still prefer other clubs).

The problem about the presence is that the two spaniards Real and Barca have their own TV commercialisation so they can make their own TV contracts with ervery country. The EPL teams have it easy because they play in the best Football league all over the world so the english football association can make really expansive contracts. In Germany there is since the beginning of the BL 50 years ago only one team whitch is constantly on the top and whitch is important in Europe to and that´s Bayern. That´s why the commercialisation of the BL istn´t that advanced like in England because the world is thinking the league isn´t that good.
I´m curious about how this goes on in the next years. Things will change...

I believe what sets Bayen from teams in the EPL and La liga is the lack o support in the Americas especially US. Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, RM, and Barca have a strong foothold in the Americas with all the pre season games they play there. When was the last time Bayern ever played a friendly in the Americas?

If i`m right never...
It´s really interesting to hear how the surpport is in the US. But i´m a bit surprised about the fact that in proportional to other clubs the surport is that little. I mean Beckenbauer played in the US, Matthäus to and some other also in the past. Isn´t that interesting where they coming from? ...

I would've imagined Klinsmann in particular would've won Bayern some fans.

Well the big four of sponsors are obviously Adidas, Audi and Telekom plus Allianz with the Arena sponsoring. These are really big and influential corporations. So Ulli Hoeneß, Hopfner and Rummenigge certainly did a very good job tying these connections for the benefit of our club. More importantly are these four all longterm partnerships between a club and sponsors that value Bayern München highly as a brand for marketing purposes.

Comparing these accomplishments with Manchester United's latest deals, the by far most valuable sports club in the world, isn't really a fair trade. We shouldn't believe that we did anything wrong because the marketing of the EPL is by no means comparable to the Bundesliga. Doesn't mean there couldn't be done more but we already do our annual Asia tour (India, China, Japan) but one and a half clubs isn't enough to compete against the EPL.

Blatantly off topic but does anyone know if the deal is with Vauxhall or Opel? I seriously doubt the GM or Chevrolet brands have any interest in showing up in European team shirts.

As far as i am aware it will be the Chevy logo on the shirt. They had already become the teams official car sponsor and have the Chevy "Bow tie" stitched on their seats in the dugout.

Does anyone here read Spox? Uli has told this yesterday. 100 mil. € for 9% shares, great offer. We can expect that from Hoeneß to sell another 9%, however it's not so urgent.

Problem is... We haven't succeed to spend Audi's 100 mil. as we wanted to end it with Arena payment and focus on future stuff, because the banks are problem who want to continue with taking interest rates. Facking usurers...
