Yes, but Beckenbauer redefined the Libero-position... why does this argument remind me of the Ballon D'Or discussion this year? :-k

Hehe yeah indeed, but then again, who really followed the football back then from all of us to really be able to Judge. To be honest, i just cant watch that old school stuff, its quite boring and slow. Mostly i skip parts like that. Except Bayern history, watched those things to get to know my club in the past.

But the thing i hate about Beckenbauer, is that he is ALWAYS somewhere in the news and stuff because he has to shove his nose there. And Muller, you almost never hear anything about anymore, he is very humble and i like that in him.

Yes, the Kaiser can be annoying at times these days, but if that is a criterion we shouldn't find Loddar on rank 3 either.

Unfortunately the article doesn't mention anything about what criteria were used (if any criteria were even defined), but I'm pretty sure it refers to their active time as players only. I think Beckenbauer's top rank is justified, because he brought something new to football and took the game a step further.

What criteria can be used to compare players of 10 generations... all played in different times, conditions.
Beckenbauer was probably the most remarkable... I'd have named the stadium after him even if he has a big mouth, he has it granted. Nobody is perfect.
I don't like the 'Allianz Arena' name btw...

Those days - Mueller: Look at me, I set some records. Look at me, I can't stop scoring. (no recognition)
Nowadays - XY: Look at me, I broke some records. Look at me, I can't stop scoring penalties. (recognition)

1. Franz Beckenbauer
2. Gerd Müller
3. Lothar Matthäus

This list is biased. Only Germans? Where are Ribery and Robben? Also, give me Elber over Uwe Seeler any day :)
And any list not containing Effenberg is blasphemy, anyway.

Robben is on #13 and Ribery is on #20. Elber and Effenberg are somewhere further down the list.

On 11 to 20:
11. Oliver Kahn, 12. Sepp Maier, 13. Arjen Robben, 14. Jupp Heynckes, 15. Matthias Sammer, 16. Paul Breitner, 17. Michael Ballack, 18. Andi Brehme, 19. Rudi Völler, 20. Franck Ribéry

You'll find the complete 100 in the link I've posted.

Maybe that's why we have no foreign superstars and they refuse to join BuLi, Germans love their own... and that''s how it should be. :P Messi and Ronaldo would be 22 and 50 in this list.

In an all-time Bundesliga list, it's to be expected that it is dominated by Germans. In the earlier decades, there were barely any foreign players at all in league. It's also about career achievements in the league. It's hard to argue that all seasons they played in the Bundesliga considered, Robben and Ribery have been better than Neuer, Lahm and Schweinsteiger, who are the only ones of the active players ahead of them. Those three were the backbone of both Bayern's and the DFB XI's defense and midfield for years. And in Germany there isn't that anti-defender/goalkeeper bias that exists in other countries. There's no reason why Robben or Ribery should be in the top 10, considering where Thomas Müller, Götze and Reus are ranked.

What I like about that list is that you can tell they really tried to avoid any generational bias. They didn't protect the big names of the past at all costs - they weren't afraid to put Neuer ahead of both Kahn and Maier, or Lahm and Schweinsteiger ahead of Breitner. And they didn't put everyone of the 2014 World Cup team in the top 20 or 30 either. Some of the younger players like Boateng might be ranked a bit too low, but that might be justified as they have been outstanding players only for a season or two so far and have yet to prove that they are consistent over a longer period.
