FC Bayern 2017-What's counter attack and how to perform it ?

What's interesting to note is how many of those counter-attacks came after defending set-pieces. We were a possession team even back then, but when we had a counter attacking opportunity we knew how to seize it. We need more training time spent on transitioning after set-pieces.

Our ideal midfield trio should be composed by Rudy Javi if we are to play with a double #6.
With Thiago behind the striker , Muller a false RAM and Coman as LW...

If we play with a three men mdf...
Rudy Tolisso and Thiago

2017/18 Tactics & Formations Thread

It's true... The guy has had 13 decent months... And he's not 19 or 20, he's 26!
If he keeps this up he's going to be a more than valuable squad player and way above Rode - but him starting against RM? Don't be ridiculous

Plus, you're playing Thiago in the wrong position and you're completely neglecting the best offensive player we still have... And James...

Spaghetti Monster does

Seriously: Rudy had a good game... But if every player is a starter here for one good game, then Renato is, too
If our other players seriously don't get back in form, he might have a shot... IMHO it's Neuer - Defense - Tolisso, James, Thiago - Müller, Robben - Lewa

Of course we know Ancelotti will never play like this - but he's not gonna start Rudy (too often) either...

with the redundancy in midfielders, Ancelotti could use both 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 in one game. Replace one star by another star to push the opponents to the limit.

We could start the game with 4-3-3 with 3 good passers: Tolisso, Rudy, Thiago + Robbery to take control of the game, then later on when the opponents get tired, bring on Mueller/James + Vidal/Renato to torture them.

Kimmich is good but most of the time he's alone, noone helps him. He needs to practice double exchange tricks with Robben just like Lahm to give the right wing more unpredictable.

I'm worried for the future though, it seems it's very hard to find a replacement for Robben, his trademark tricks are unique nowadays. Where can we find a player like that ?

Ancelotti's only play is to sneak out to the balcony to have a smoke after his big meal of spaghetti.

Let's think about a formation that doesn't involve a CF at all.

352?

Boateng Sule Hummels
Kimmich Tolisso Thiago Vidal Alaba
Müller/Robben James

This formation looks whack but park the bus and get a goal on the break and that's good enough for a win.

I'm putting this here, instead of wiriting in Carlo's thread:

Bayern won the 2013 Champions League with an attack-minded 4-2-3-1 system, while Ancelotti likes a 4-3-3 line-up.Even captain Manuel Neuer diplomatically admitted that Ancelotti’s system does not always allow enough players to push forward on attack.“We had too few players in the box,” said Neuer in Hoffenheim. “It isn’t necessarily the fault of the system, but perhaps another system would allow more players in the box.”

(copying from Carlo's therad) :

And some other things...
Despite talking about Carlo as a tactically inflexible coach, with Milan Ancelotti later drew praise for his ability to find systems which would best suit his players, and which allowed several talented and creative players to co-exist;Ancelotti was able to implement a more creative playing style based on possession when he notably adopted a 4–3–1–2, 4–1–2–1–2 or 4–4–2 diamond formation. I think with James he should try at least one of these formations from his Milan days, and he should left the modified 4-3-3 from Real, which is trying to use here. In every club he managed,he changed of modified the formation ,but still - this is not the case with Bayern.

Whether he will change anything or not ?
