I wish we would give this a try sometimes whenever our 4 cbs are fit (not the primary formation to build the team on I mean):

People make too much of a fuss about 3 vs 4 men defenses. What SLG wants is essentially the same as what I wanted;

Lewy-Müller
James
Thiago-Javi-Vidal
Alaba-Hummels-Boateng-Kimmich

3421, 4312, it's essentially the same if done with the same players.

It's not realistic to play 4231 when you need to have 4 offensive players and only have 6 in the squad, two of which are old and injury prone. 6 players for 4 places is really pushing it. 7 if you push it and play Thiago offensively which is not so ideally suited to him.

I'm not counting Benko.

My personal analysis (not that it means much or that anyone from the club will ever read this but still )

We need to have formations alongside the existing 4231. Should play 3421 and 4321 from time to time.

GK for all three formations - Neuer

Best possible 4231
Kimmich Boateng Hummels Alaba
Vidal/Tolliso Thiago
Robben Müller/James Coman/Ribery
RL

Best possible 3421
Boateng Martinez/Niklas Hummels
Kimmich Thiago Tolliso/Rudy Alaba
Müller/Robben James/Coman
RL

Best possible 4321
Kimmich Boateng Hummels Alaba
Vidal Thiago Tolliso
Müller/Robben James/Ribery
RL

Sanches situation needs to be resolved before the cup game against Chemnitzer. Either sell him or loan or if he's staying declare it. End the uncertainty ffs!

A back up striker is essential, as you can see in all the three formations above, RL is the only one CF. There is no replacement for him. There are only two solutions to this problem. First and the most obvious answer is to buy a backup striker who's decent enough to score 10-12 goals a season and can do the job when called upon to fill up for RL. Second alternative is to play one of either Evina or Wintzheimer from time to time against weaker BL and Cup opponents so that if RL is unavailable for a crucial game (like the 1st QF against Madrid last season) then Bayern are not caught with their pants down and only have Thomas to rely upon as the striker.

Squad rotation is also necessary. Lewandowski, Ribery and Robben need to put the team above their personal pride. Zindane too rotated last season and rested guys like Ronaldo, Ramos, Modric and Kroos from time to time.

Lastly, I've made peace with the fact that Bayern are unlikely to win the CL if Carlo continues like this. I'll be very happy, delighted in fact with a double. However anything less and I'll be extremely disappointed.

Might as well lock this thread as it seems we can't be bothered to try any tactics whatsoever at the moment

For me the problem is quite obvious.

- If we play 4-2-3-1 then we still need to sign a top winger. We actually should have gotten a top winger instead of Tolisso or James
- If the transfer window is done for us, I'm fine with it but then we CAN'T play 4-2-3-1 cause it will be embarrasing

The thing is that we will be recovering a few players like Neuer, Robben, Kimmich or Vidal so we are gonna improve a little bit, but the problem will still be the same :(

Because I actually think that most of the goals conceded in this preseason could have easily been avoided had Neuer been in goals, but still our tactics are so bad
I TRUST IN ARJEN ROBBEN

After our posture on the market, Im expecting a 3-6-1 formation...

With only Robbery and Coman as wings, I would gladly welcome Draxler, especially after Neymar sign, PSG might be looking to make some profit with sales

any team use 3-3-3-1 successfully ?

-------------------Lewy

-----Ribery--Muller/James---Robben

---Alaba-----Vidal/Thiago------Rudy/Toliso

-----Hummels---Boateng----Kimmich

This formation looks weird but it seems to solve our problem of redundancy in midfield.

4-2-3-1 is the better formation with Robben and Ribery fit, but without one of them, this can change to a 4-3-2-1.

I will like to keep the line of 4 in defense with a #6 on the pitch, if Ancelotti wants balance.

Speaking of tactics. Peter Bosz outsmarted Carlo tactically in the second half today and after Müller was substituted Bayern looked like sitting ducks against BVB. Hopefully some remedial action is taken soon in this regard!
