New players, new coach, so obviously new tactics! How will Sanches and Hummels find their place in the squad? How will Carlo Ancelotti assemble this squad to be kings of Europe?!

If Renato will be a starter I don't know.
We have Kimmich do not forget him.
If Kimmich will be used as CM... Our mdf has a big big future...
On the other hand he can be our new #2...

Back to Renato I can see us play with a 4-3-3 If this is the case I hope that Mueller wont suffer.

As of now, it looks quite congested in midfield with Vidal, Thiago, Alonso, Kimmich, Sanches, and Martinez (assuming he's not considered as a CB) competing for 2 or 3 spots.

It'll be interesting to see how that works out, but there's a lot of variety there and it will be a big asset.

I'm loving the midfield depth, especially since Bayern will most likely play a three man midfield under Carlo. At least we will be in less trouble if injuries start hitting the midfield.

Assuming no midfielder will be sold, I think Alonso is the most likely to warm the bench.
I don't even count Rode and Hojbjerg.

Vidal-Javi-Renato is waaayyy too defensive. I expect a midfield three with a Regista and two tough b2b guys shielding him

Does anyone else expect a back 3 next season. I get Ancelotti doesn't have a history of using a back 3. Imagine we only sell Rode, Rafinha, and loan Kimmich. plus the new additions. We could play a 361 and start


We would have 5 players for 3 spots In defense
We would have about 9 players for 6 spots in midfield
And we would have 2 players for 1 spot at striker.

We would be able to accommodate the amount of talented midfielders.

Edit: nvm I left out Alaba.... Crap we're stacked. I guess 433 with Alaba and Lahm pushing up is the solution.

As I said, I think Thiago's only way was to play DLP. However, Thiago's game is not really a DLP imo.

I think one guy that might be more suitable than Javi and Thiago to be the successor of Alonso is Illamarendi. He's a more natural DM and DLP than anyone I can think of that isn't crazy money.

Illaramendi is the closest clone to XAbi Alonso I can think of. He's not fast/quick, his passing, especially longball passing is world class, and very good defensive sense/tackling...

Here is a scouting report from a few years ago on him.

llaramendi’s game is compared to Alonso’s due to their similarity in passing and ability to cut open passes while lying in the deep, with splendid through balls. A high passing accuracy of 81% along with an average of four long balls in every game, further define the similarity in their style of play. I often watched him when he was a Real Madrid player, and the guy was just catastrophic. I also don't think Ancelotti has been hit by amnesia recently.

That's true. However, he was setup to fail at Madrid.

Just like Lucas Silva and Isco/James right now are....

Obviously, not the best solution, but money wise and position wise, might be the most ideal alonso replacement.

The only thing I know about Ancelotti system, formation, etc. is that he didn't play with 3 players in the last line.

It's been always 4, either in 4-1-2-1-2, 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1, 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-3. I can't even recall that he's ever played 4-2-3-1. :?

I expect to see 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and maybe his most known 4-1-2-1-2(4-4-2 diamond). 4-2-3-1 and 3 line defense would be a complete surprise for me.
