I can't remember when was the last time that I agreed with Goal.com
I really really like that formation. no Thiago as a starter please , two motors inside with Renato and Vidal and help God just a single season a fit Robben with Costa on his preferred position as LW hopefully improved in some areas!

Very nice line up there, we can become really flexible, with these players the possesion won't be at Pep's level but you can sub-in Thiago and voilà!
I'm wondering if Renato will break in instantly because I dreamed for Martinez-Vidal partnership at the centre midfield but if the boy can outshine any of these guys just bring him in and we can rotate perfectly Martinez-Vidal-Renato on rotation, everybody is happy, everybody can be rested!

I hoped for a 4-4-2 formation like Carlo's Milan in the past with his box to box midfielders but I don't care, I'll wait patiently to see what the Italian has in mind, I just want him to finally rotate regularly! He is not a big fan of rotation and it would be a shame with such a roster not to rotate.

Alonso should take the Rode role... a midfielder could always leave because there are "one too many" big names.

I hope Ancelotti will rotate Thiago and Sanches based on the opponent we face. They seem like key players to unlock different types of defense.

Thiago vs the busses and Renato vs the high pressers.

With both Hummels and Boateng, we might not need a regista... However, I would definitely not play all 3 in Martinez, vidal and sanches...

In order for Thiago and Vidal to work, Vidal needs to play the b2b type of role and Thiago a regista/DLP role or have Thiago play behind the CF. I don't think Thiago-Vidal as the 2 cms in a 4-3-3, worked well this season.....

Look at dribbling numbers that i found for the 15/16 season. Both Costa and Coman attempt one dribble more a game than Ribery and Robben. Their numbers are on par with those of Robbery in the 2009/10 season. They both tend to feint inside, then use their speed to get around the outside of the defender and look for one of the strikers inside the box. As defences figured out to have a second defender covering on the outside, the success rate of these dribbles took a dip in the second half of the season. Furthermore, especially Costa’s crosses seemed to be ill-advised from time to time. This is an area where both players need to improve in the future. Müller, meanwhile, isn’t able to produce such a high dribbling rate. This is not only caused by his playing style but also because he spends a lot of time in a more central positon.

The stats show that both Costa and Coman can contribute to a team, but in a different way than Ribery and Robben did and still do. More crosses and fewer shots – these are the main conclusions to draw here. With all four wingers healthy, we are definitely a tough side to prepare for, for every opponent, because each of them has their individual strengths. Robben with his shots and will to score, Ribery with lots of assisted shots and dribbles towards the centre of the field, Costa with electric dribbles out wide and fierce crosses when lined up on the left, but also nice shots from outside of the box when lined up on the right, Coman with blistering pace and enormous potential, and lastly Müller who’s everywhere at all times. Both Costa and Coman will, however, have to develop a lot before they can take the role of Robbery, especially on the European stage, and i think this is going to happen this season.

Ancelotti says he is still undecided on the formation but does not expect a big change from last season.

I am 99% sure that he will prefer a 4-3-3 changed to 4-2-3-1 according the game and the opponent

He mentioned a 3-man defence too... I think we might see that occasionally.

I will be delighted if we don't have a set style.

Lack of midfielders I suppose.

Will be quite a twist if he plays Lahm in midfield :P
