2015/16 Tactics & Formations Thread

Postby quaazi » Fri Jun 12, 2015 8:48 am

So, with rumours about that we'll not dip into the transfer market this window, at least not in a grandiose way, what can we expect from a fully fit squad and Pep's cray-cray machinations? It's hard enough to nail down his preferred roster, let alone a formation or tactical system they'll play in. But won't stop us from guessing, will it?

I am mainly confused by his possible solutions with the wingback positions. Whereas the continued use of Bernat as a roaming wing player down the left seems rather likely, I feel like the right will have a very unorthodox system to it. What we have to work with is Lahm's certain move into midfield, Boateng's forays into midfield, Robben's occasional very deep starting position and Rafinha's possible swan song as a starter last (this) season. I have a feeling that we'll end up in one of those weird quasi-3-man defenses without an actual defined rightback. Something like this:

or slight variations like

and

It doesn't really matter - I'm sure he'll rotate a lot in the big picture, but that right flank I feel will stay in that configuration where Boateng builds from deep, Lahm tucks in to tie together the midfield, Robben will provide width and pace and Müller combinations and the pressing game. In any case, our ability to switch play and kick up the tempo will be extremely formidable when we have a full lineup.
The ideal team

where is Benatia?
I think that if Weiser stays he will be used more often...

Any formation with Thiago on the bench is a no-go. That's for sure. I think there is a chance of Lahm not playing in midfield

If we go with something like this we could also maybe let Götze or Müller play on the left instead of more central sometimes. I'm not sure how healthy Ribéry will be but if he has injury issues or just doesn't start that much any more Götze or Müller could move from the center to the left. Also Javi, Alaba, and Thiago could all get some playing time in midfield or defensive midfield, with Bernat playing left back if Alaba plays in midfield.

In something like this Schweinsteiger and Alaba can play in midfield/defensive midfield as well. Ribéry could maybe get some time on the left if he is healthy enough and still playing well.

I think Pep will try this

--------------------Neuer--------------------

----Boateng----Martinez----Benatia-----

----Lahm----Muller----Thiago----Alaba----

--Robben--Lewandowski--Gotze/new winger--

Muller also rotating on the front three, Bernat as a backup for Alaba, Dante & Darmian for defense, Alonso, Schweinsteiger, Rode, Hojbjerg rotating. I know it looks crazy, but we started more than half of this season's matches with crazy and unbelievable lineups so it won't be a suprise.

I'm still not convinced that three at the back will work against our toughest opponents.

Yeah, it's a thought alright. In essence the "tucked-in wingbacks" experiment he tried last season against United, for example. Didn't offer much penetration or tempo, but sure took hold of the game in a dominant fashion. We could see thissystem - depends on whether Pep considered it to be a success last time around or not.

I think its too early to predict the tactics and formation of the team before the transfer period.

I was thinking about how Rode can be used. Do you guys think he could be developed into an Alaba kind of player. Same skillset just on the right side. We know he has some shooting ability, tackling ability, and is somewhat pacey, although not anything to brag about. It could look something like this in the middle. What do you guys think?

Really? Rode over Thiago? Sorry but the kid is not that great, certainly not to play over Thiago.

Nope never over Thiago, the 3 of them can hold the midfield with Thiago being the maestro possibly leading infront of them.

Also this is over a period of time. The question at hand is if you think Rode could develop into the Alaba role but on the right side?

Thiago is not really a forward, rather have Götze there and Thiago in a deeper role.

No player can do what Alaba does. He is unique . Our most important player IMO

Interestingly enough Schweini has featured in only one lineup in this thread so far...
