You cant compare both players, they have different characteristics, Thiago is not a defensive midfielder as Xabi. We have 2 strong defensive midfielders (Javi and Xabi) and one of them should play in the midfield (behind Thiago or Alaba) for the recovery of the ball distribution and supporting the central defenders.

Thiago played dm before in munich and my point wasn't about being the dm, however, controlling the game through the back and spraying passes when needed...Also, for set piece purposes.

:)

Tbh if that is the case, we need another forward signing. And maybe a CM.

That would be back to 2009/2010, a really exiting season. I'd love to see this 4-4-2, exactly the same as van Gaal's back then. :P

The other option would be back to 4-2-3-1, with Götze on CAM and RW and Müller as CAM or RW/LW.

We have enough options, but the last always comes from a coach. In addition to that, sometimes it's not about formations, but display, attacking actions and their exact form how to realize it on the pitch.

I think I found a way for you to change it. Go to the user control panel button on the top left. Then profile.

the front three to alternate with Robben - Costa - Ribery
and in central midfield ; Rode and Hojbjerg can be very important to the cause...

I think that if we sign Vidal, the team will be as follows:

Neuer

Boateng/Badstuber
Martinez
Benatia/Dante

Alaba/Bernat
Vidal/Rode
Thiago/Alonso
Lahm/Rafinha

Robben/Costa
Muller/Ribery

Lewandowski/Gotze

Something like 3-4-3 with Muller and Robben playing behind Lewa - on the left and on the right, but not wingers. Alaba and Lahm - LM and RM. Vidal and Thiago - central midfielders. Boateng and Benatia - central defenders. Javi also CD, but playing as DM when the team attacks, covering Vidal and Thiago in the middle.
If Lewa dosen't play, Muller will play instead as ST.

And we all know how *well* he played there in his first match against Dortmund

If we take off Costa from starting 11, I expect Götze on the wing or at least as #10. These are his positions where he's given his best in the past.

This is what would be the best compromise to all in the past two years. Guardiola's old 4-3-3.

And this one with 2 CBs and Martinez as a libero.

that's 4-3-3 (in the middle) can also be a 4-1-4-1 right?

You're right. In defensive situations it is 4-1-4-1, but in offensive situations should be two wingers/inside forwards.

I like it when we have two holders in central midfield. One becomes #8 in offensive part, the other one remains just in case to cover #8's back and prevent opposition's counter attack.

That's why Bastian - Martinez axle was world's best in year 2013. I still become exited when I say it. :o :P

But it's over and I'm going to be very happy if our coach opts for Thiago-Vidal duo from now on and start using #10 once again.

That's the best suitable system for Bayern, proven and saluted by many fans, even those who know to disagree about our playing style, Guardiola opinion, etc.

If it comes to this we'll have a hard time finding something better than this overall.
Don't worry about Lewandowski on the wing, it will be a fluid front 3 and Müller on the left just doesn't look right.

Leave Vidal at Juve, Goetze at Bayern, move Alaba to midfield and Bernat for the wing and it would be perfect

I don't think Vidal is *thaaaaat* big of an improvement. And don't see him being a top player for more than 2 seasons. Rather give Götze a last chance and not pursue such a short term strategy as Vidal is.

Plus I want Alaba in midfield. In any case, I don't think your lineup is realistic, Bernat won't be benched IMO.

"Bernat won't be benched IMO."
And why is that ?

I also think there have been enough sources saying there won't be a Götze-Vidal swap and if Götze leaves it will be a seperate deal.
Alaba is worse than Vidal in midfield and Bernat is worse than Alaba.
