If Bayern really wants to milk that US cow, they better play Green a lot.

It would be really good sport/business-wise for Bayern if Green becomes a great player.

Bayern are going to the US to get bigger. They have a pretty big fanbase at MLS, are we just going to let Real Madrid get all their fans? They're already buying everyone, we don't want to make them richer.

With all the half-Germans in US team and in US, Bayern should surely use that advantage.

Unfortunately, if your name is not Beckham or Ronaldo, the majority of Americans could care less about real football( which drives me crazy). Bayern will get slightly bigger in my opinion, but only in the minds of those who follow the sport. There will be very few newcomers.

This country is getting ready for American football with teams in training camp now so a summer tour is really a waste. Sports fans in the states don't understand or appreciate real football nor do they want to because of the other sports here. The World Cup is over, therefore, "soccer" is over in their minds.

In addition, not many football fans and non football fans I know even supported Germany in the World Cup. They were rooting for Messi to win and could care less about the other 10 players on his squad. I owe it all to our preoccupation with being famous without doing anything.

Hope I don't sound too cynical! :coffee:

It's true that bayern might not gain so much from American fans. My roommate has become interested in soccer and though he might like bayern, he would rather support Portland's team.

One thing working for Bayern is the US-Germany military connection. Many German military personnel work here in the US and many American military members have exposure to Germany after getting stationed there, marrying Germans etc. Maybe the focus on US doesn't capture many Americans but many Germans living here want to feel connected to Germany in some way, and watching bundesliga matches could be a big part of that.

I totally agree with the German population feeling connected. I have ATT Uverse and to watch the Bundesliga, I had to buy the Spanish package to watch GOLTV! Cannot wait to get rid of that extra cost when the league moves to FOXSPORTS.

Interesting note about your friend. I am here in Houston, and the first question I get when someone knows I love football is, "So do you watch the Dynamo?" I laugh and say no, don't really like that style of play. They then give me that strange look as if football has different styles and how could I not root for our hometeam. And no, I have never been to a Dynamo match. I would rather watch my daughter or son's team play.

I also have to buy the Spanish language package to watch Bundesliga matches. The good thing that they show Bayern EVERY week, so I never miss a match. I'm pretty sure Bayern and Dortmund had everything to do with Fox picking up the Bundesliga next season.

Soccer is growing here....slowly but surely. Attendance at these pre-season matches has been great. Madrid, Barcelona, Man U, and Chelsea have huge followings on this side of the pond. It makes perfect sense for Bayern to expand the brand by getting inn the action as well.

The US should host a world cup soon. That would be the final step.

Asia is too far for a short tour. I'd love too so I can travel and see them. Hopefully in Korea or Japan... I don't really like China and it's pollution.

Maybe go to North Korea? Then there are no doubts, which side is going to win the game. :D And also in North Korea locates the worlds biggest stadium.

My fellow American, it is up to us to convert them one at a time! I got my last girlfriend hooked on Bayern so much that even after we broke up she was still talking about the team on Facebook (most recently she was pissed about the Mandzukic exodus, lol) and asks me to send her highlights on Youtube

Of course you're right about everything you said. But, one at a time...
