That was a bit of a problem under Jupp too.....

I'm sure it will get better in a few weeks.

We are beginning to see how Pep is going to want to field us next season. He just likes a single pivot way too much to play two of them at once. :D

Call it 4-1-4-1. Call it 4-3-3 with a Busquets role, I don't care. I like it principally. It will take some getting used to by the players, but I believe Javi Martínez is predestined to play a Busquets role and Kroos + Schweinsteiger in center midfield has worked extremely well last year, and might even get more pronounced this year if, what I think Pep's plan is, Javi plays even further back than he used to last year.

Still a lot of sloppy passing but its just as direct as it was under Jupp. Also like Commodore said it will take some getting used to not having a midfield duo like under Jupp at least in my opinion.....

Despite my earlier comments my first impressions of the 4-1-4-1 are very good. I can see why the change would make us better if we are going to incorporate more passing in our build-ups. It offers clear advantages over the 4-2-3-1 when it comes to passing options and so far I am loving it. I have to admit I am still concerned about the defensive aspect against stronger teams though. If we keep the everyone defends style that should be countered well enough. :)

Regarding tactics, I am loving this "hybrid" I mentioned earlier. The small changes in tactics are definitely for the better. They are playing what I see as the ideal style which contains a right balance of everything. What I'm worried about here is the possibility that there is only a balance because the players are not used to the new style and are still influenced by last season. For now I'll be optimistic and hope that it's intentional. After all Pep did say that he will only make small changes. Our players don't seem hesitant to take long shots either. I've always been a fan of that and it is a point I always bring up when we struggle to score, so I'm happy about that.

As for Højbjerg, he's continued to impress me during this half. It's highly unlikely that he'll break into the first team this season but I can see him becoming the youth we experiment with throughout the season. I am sure he won't disappear like Can last season but will keep getting playing time.

Very satisfied so far I must say.

I'm not overly impressed so far. The team looks _completely different_ to me, than it was last year...and such a huge change was uncalled for...that team won the treble after all.

My bigger concern is we have some great dribblers, and all I see right now is Ribery and Shaqiri trying to distribute the ball...we aren't really taking advantage of the players we have.

I don't see this being a "hybrid" system either, it's just that Pep hasn't been here for long enough, so the team haven't managed to finish the transition. All the counters are pretty much gone, we are just holding the ball in the midfield whenever we would have a chance to counter.

I'm a little worried. I really loved last year's team, I would hate to see it changed completely.

We'll see I guess.

Also, this is the first game against a hlalfway decent side this pre-season. Let's not read too much into it. It's good for getting a first indication of where things may be headed in the near future.

Missed the first 10 minutes of the second half. What were the subs? I think I see Can, Rafinha and Pizza
