Alonso is definitely spent. Decent guy and all, but I'd prefer to see Hojbjerg, Kimmich or Rode starting in the league.

Rode and Thiago have to play, so not sure about Kimmich and Hojbjerg yet...
That last spot could be Martinez, or Alaba, or Lahm.

Shouldn't read too much into this game. We had no CBs on deck. None. And it was clear from that last pass that the guys don't know too much about Costa yet. Alonso was probably expecting for a LW front run there.

I'd like to see Kimmich and Hojbjerg in for the next match. I'm curious about how one or both of them work with Thiago.

Well at least Costa looks like hes going to hit the ground running this season and will fit right in. And Thiago and Rode paired together should be our CM pairing. Rode has really developed well and his vision for through balls has gotten really good, not to mention hes willing to take long shots and unlike Shaqiri he actually should be taking them. Steinhart was interesting to watch too, those cuts and turns reminded me of Kimmich.

Anybody know when the next match is being played?

Rode was very good, Schweinsteiger's transfer may give him some opportunities to shine. Thiago looks like he will have one hell of a season if he manages to finish the entire pre-season training without injury. Steinhart was a positive surprise (shame we already have two LB). Costa nothing special except for the assist but decent enough first game.
Augsburg looks in shape though, I hope they can play a good season and perform decently in the EL

When Hojbjerg played against City, he was solid to say the least. Far from fantastic, but better than any Alonso game in the ruckrunde. It's a shame his decline is so dramatic, because it is not his fault and from Pep's perspective it is difficult to just hand over a starting position to a teenager.

Friendlies are meant to test squads and tactics, and even from a very curt 45 minutes I believe Alonso can no longer pass the test.

Rode is definitely something to look forward to this season. Thiago is also in for one hell of a season. Costa made some good runs, his speed can damage defenses. Kurt did a nice move and is a pretty confident player, I don't think he should be playing on the right if he's left footed though, I always see him crossing with his left leg.
