mygOt, im so ashamed about the friendly against Barca.. we played so bad, really i got no words for it  It started all good, but once Barca started to pump up the beat, they scored 3 goals in 10min..

I was really hoping to see Bayern score at least one goal but actually they didnt even created one decent chance

Probably you ll all say that we missed Lucio and Hargreaves, but still there was no inspiration in the team.. i hope bayern buys someone to fill the HUGE hole in midfield, otherwise we ll not survive CL first round and bundesliga title will go to Bremen..

Still i managed to see some positive points, the youngsters like Hummels and Dos Santos did a great job but both need more exp.

We were nothing short of ridiculed. The midfield was just hopeless. Something radical needs to be done urgently.

The problem was the midfield which was not linking the defence with the attack, and when the attack lost balls, the midfield wasn't holding them up but they were getting through easily to the defence.

Reds powerless to resist classy Catalans

22.08.2006

A makeshift Bayern side proved no match for the European champions on a night when Ronaldinho and Co produced half an hour of their awesome best.

A 77,662 crowd gathered at the legendary Camp Nou to witness the 41st annual duel for the Joan Gamper Trophy, named for the founder of the iconic Catalan club.

The German champions made a decent fist of it at the start, but once the star-studded home team reached operating temperature, it was plain the Reds' sixth tilt at the prestigious pre-season accolade would end as fruitlessly as the previous five.

Breath-taking Barca

A sumptuous Ronaldinho free-kick and a trademark Samuel Eto'o brace put the home side three to the good before the interval, and despite Barca boss Frank Rijkaard's decision to swap his entire line-up at half-time, the Spaniards' seamless display continued and Javier Saviola swiftly added a fourth.

To their credit, the battling Bayern side never gave in and were a shade unlucky not to net a consolation in an encouraging finish, but the Bavarians will still be hoping to avoid the vibrant Catalans in Thursday's draw for the Champions League group phase.

Reshuffled Reds

The warm-up nature of the match was reflected in neither side starting at full strength. For Bayern, Lucio and Owen Hargreaves were missing with flu, while coach Felix Magath chose to rest Messrs Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Makaay and Santa Cruz.

That meant starts for Ali Karimi, Julio dos Santos, Claudio Pizarro and Lukas Podolski, all little-used so far this term, while the fairytale continued for 17-year-old centre-half Mats Hummels, plucked from the reserves as emergency cover just a few weeks ago and now sharing the sacred turf with some of the biggest names in the game.

Rijkaard omitted summer signings Lilian Thuram and Eidur Gudjohnsen at the start, but fielded newly-arrived World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta in a line-up groaning with class and quality in the shape of Deco, Lionel Messi, Eto'o and undisputed superstar Ronaldinho.

Bright start

Bayern opened brightly enough and the first 20 minutes gave cause for optimism. Pizarro drove narrowly wide, before Podolski had a good shout for a penalty waved away after running onto Dos Santos' delicate lob but coming to a shuddering halt in a hefty challenge from keeper Victor Valdes.

But midway through the half, Barca first engaged and then ran smoothly up through the gears in an increasingly irresistible display which ripped the heart out of Bayern's first-half resistance.

Perfect free-kick

Messi and Ronaldinho loosed off warning shots before the Brazilian ace opened the scoring on the half-hour with a phenomenal 25-yard free-kick, curled to perfection beyond Kahn and into the top corner.

Eto'o doubled the misery just two minutes later, following up after Kahn had brilliantly parried Ronaldinho's ferocious drive, and the deadly Cameroon hitman was on target again five minutes from half-time, flicking the ball over the Bayern keeper after Hummels' attempted clearance unluckily ricocheted back towards goal.

Second-half improvement

Rijkaard sent out an entirely fresh eleven for the second period but unfortunately from a Munich point of view, the pattern remained the same as Kahn came up short against Ludovic Giuly, leaving Saviola a simple task to net the fourth.

The heat went out of the match after the hour mark and chances fell at both ends. Saviola and Ezquerro might have turned the rout into a humiliation, but the Reds raised their game for the final phase and Podolski, Pizarro and Podolski again were a trifle unfortunate not to grab one consolation goal at least.

I do think its mainly because the new players (Podolski and Van Buyten) and also the upcoming youngsters (ottl, dos santos and hummels) still need to grow and learn working together..

Dos Santos played a good match but he still needs to learn a lot: he almost never defended so that's a working point

otherwise i think for the years coming the team will be improving itself with so many young players..

------------------------------------Rensing
----------Sagnol / Lell-----VanBuyten---Lucio--------Lahm
-------Dos Santos / karimi---Demichelis--Hargreaves----Schweini
-------------------------Santa Cruz-------Podolski

think most of them are around 25 years old so within 2 seasons they should be ready to challenge the European top again !!

Don't forget Deisler, I believe he'll prove to be one of the key players when he comes back.
