From the looks of this it sounds like Bayern II will be playing Regionalliga West side SC Foruna Köln in the promotion playoffs [source]

Bayern II:
Won: 24
Drawn: 3
Lost: 6
Scored: 91
Conceded: 30
Points: 75

Fortuna Koln:
Won: 22
Drawn: 6
Lost: 5
Scored: 68
Conceded: 30
Points: 72

Sounds doable, although the Regionalliga West is possibly a harder league. Leverkusen's, Schalke's, and Gladbach's second teams play there and are mid-table teams.

What are the rules for allowing a professional senior player to play for a club's second team? Magath had demoted Schweinsteiger once, and other players (eg Toni) played there after injury in order to regain form. I'm wondering whether Bayern would be allowed to 'cheat' by playing one or two professionals in the playoffs.

At least Badstuber maybe... though I'm sure Thiago also wouldn't mind some match practice ahead of the World Cup team selection.

Badstuber should be given the chance imo, it will help him. Raeder, Hojbjerg, Weiser, and if fit Green should obviously play. Some of the others on the bench wouldn't hurt I guess (especially Van Buyten and Pizarro) but in my opinion it is unfair for the players that have been playing for Bayern II all season and got this far to be replaced by senior players. After all, if we want them to one day play for the senior team these do-or-die games are a very good preparation.

So is there only one playoff game or are there more? We only need to win 1 game against Fortuna and we're in the 3rd league?

The two games vs Foruna Köln will be on May 28th and June 1st

I read that the Regionalliga Bayern winner qualifies for the DFB Pokal next year even if it's a reserve team, but I guess I was wrong.

The best-placed team that is not a reserve team will qualify. FV Illertissen will qualify, just as they did this season despite finishing 3rd last season.
