I have a question though. Can I get a German passport? My great great grandparents came from Sonnen, a small town in Bavaria. Is German citizenship law like that of Italy?

Sounds like a typical wife to me: 60% of them.

Then he is an American because those DACA kids (who came as toddlers and grew up here) do not know other country than the USA: many serve in our military, like both of my neighbor's kids.

America USA wrote:@Isabella - Let's cut the chase and get straight to the point. The most important reason he is choosing to play for USA and not Germany is because he knows the competition to a NT spot in Germany would be much more difficult than that in the States. Also, his stock as a German born and raised Bayern youth will almost guarantee him a starting spot in the US MNT.

Completely agree.

Not my case, I am only reporting what I see around: the institution of marriage falling apart, ironically we heterosexuals are destroying it while many of us tell homosexuals that marriage is sacred and only ours.

In case anyone is remotely interested in getting back on topic, Louis Poznanski is moving to Bayern from Bremen. Just say'n.

Jochen Sauer, head of the FC Bayern Campus, commented on the new signing on Bayern's homepage: "With Louis, we have won a very talented player in an extremely important position for Bayern, not only in Werder but also in youth We would like to thank Werder Bremen for the extremely fair and pleasant discussions. "

Depends what he feels like more... you want to make him defend the colors of something that he doesn't feel like? Btw I don't feel of the same nationality of the country that I'm born in, borders are artificial... and all my ancestors were born here... but who knows maybe my kids or grandkids might forget their true roots, happens. So, you want to deport me? OK, where? As I said all my ancestors were born here.

I believe it depends from one country to another...
Island nations tend to be more patriotic to their roots , culture etc...

What makes me Maltese? Surely not the rocks... but Culture, language, history, Religion, Values that we hold dear....

I am sure that some of my ancestors were not born here as my surname shows but that does not make not Maltese...

Certainly a nationality can grow within a player before or after the switch or we all can lose a bond to a particular place as we make decisions that move us in another direction.
Recently, one of USA' greatest talents Jonathan Gonzalez switched to Mexico: he was born in the USA, developed as a player here and having represented the USA at youth level for years but his dad is Mexican and he moved to Mexico to play in the MX League. The fact that the USA is out of the WC and Mexico is in makes people think this is the reason but I see so many factors to jump into conclusions that quick.
