I was wondering when Abramovich's name would come up...

However, despite a European council ruling earlier this week which broadened the grounds for including people on EU sanctions lists, two top lawyers yesterday warned that including rich Russian oligarchs such as Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich, would be “inconceivable”.

“Nations are now more careful about whom they list and why,” Ross Denton, partner at Baker and McKenzie, said. “It is inconceivable that it would be lawful for someone like Abramovich to be on a sanctions list just because he’s rich and Russian,” he added.

Another lawyer at a top City firm, speaking anonymously, added: “It would be very difficult to sanction someone like Abramovich and I’m not sure what it would achieve as he’s not perceived to be close to Putin. Lots of people and companies are challenging these lists and they have the power and the money to do so easily.” [source]

Hahaha the amount of clubs that would be affected if anything Russian is sanctioned by EU... Gazprom sponsored teams too. Isn't UCL sposored by them?

EDIT: Didn't Putin urged Abramovich, as well as Anzhi's owner to invest in football clubs or face jail time before? He even called Schalke to not sell Neuer.

Yes, we would probably have today Gazprom on Bayern shirts if it could be possible to sponsor 2 German clubs at the same time. Too bad... We would earn 45-50 mil € per year.

About Neuer transfer...

Putin is a great fan of Manuel Neuer and he had really called Schalke to try as best as they can to keep him at Schalke, but they couldn't and Manuel moved to Bayern.

Abramovič surely avoided jail by moving to England.

I read 200k €/week on Guardian today.
100K £/week(~126k €/week) is not the correct figure, I think. Otherwise, Mourinho wouldn't have complained. He said that even biggies aren't earning that much who've played for years and won trophies and are in their primes.
Even Sterling is 80K £/week.

Why every season Chelsea pick up an almost retired player? Don't have enough with Torres?

Shaw is getting paid quite handsomely. Young, English talent going to a club with no CL to offer? Of course they would overpay. Not like they don't have the money, but at least United are realising that you need to pay-up in order to get the best.

As for Chelsea and Drogba, not a good move in my opinion. He'd do good for them in the dressing room I guess, but this definitely means Lukaku is off.

Shaw doesn't have any European experience either. Oh well, it's United's money to burn. He's 18 and earning that much, we have another Rooney in the making.

I believe Mourinho knows what he is doing and he will make good use of Drogba. However, Drogba shouldn't have returned. We all remember his infamous last kick for Chelsea and now he's gone and ruined that. He will not be as good as he was back then for sure.
