Nah I don't think so. It had to be the champion in Malta because only the champion qualifies for the CL. In England 4th place qualifies for the CL anyway so as long as any team from the top 4 wins it the other finalist will get the European place.

Yes I think that's the case. Although, as good as it will be, I don't think the cup runners up should get a place in any situation.

Hopefully they'll perform better than the likes of Freiburg and Mainz in recent years anyway

Have Hull City confirmed that they will participate? Some small clubs who qualified through the cup have refused their place in recent years.

I've never heard of any English clubs ever refusing a place in Europe so I don't think they'll do that (although I wouldn't put it past the owners to refuse to participate if they're not "Hull Tigers" ha ha). Wigan and Birmingham still played when they qualified and they were in the Championship

and what about the carling cup? Man C won it vs Sunderlad... so I think there will be another slot for europa league; right?

Man C, Lpool, Chelski, Gunners - UCL
Everton, Tott, Hull (Man U) ??? - UEL

I think that the Carling Cup is as important as its name suggests.

The "One" in its name is its scale out of 10, signifying football importance.

Olsen, who has been in charge of the Danish national team since 2000, added: "I could play so differently with Chelsea, if I got the chance.

"But Mourinho is only able to play defensively. The club has spent so much money on so good players. Hell, use them then!"

Even Chelsea star Eden Hazard voiced his disapproval with Mourinho's tactics, claiming the team "were not made to play football" following the club's loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

And Olsen has defended the Belgian international's comments.

"Of course, it is okay to be calculating," he said. "Now and then, I also like to have the opportunity to play on the counter but there has to be a plan for how you play when you go on the attack.

"Such a plan has Guardiola. We also have it with the national team but Mourinho hasn't.

"He solely relies on set pieces, and then he hopes that Hazard or Willian can do something on their own. I certainly understand why Hazard criticized the way Chelsea played after the game." [source]

Oh look, this guy thinks Guardiola knows what he's doing when it comes to attacking. I guess I'm not alone after all. ;)

He's hit the nail on the head with his comments on Chelsea and Mourinho. I'm loving the Chelsea supporters complaining about this. Truth does indeed hurt. :)

They scored twice in 3 minutes to make it 0-3. They need to go for more goals and close the goal difference gap.

What a match, credit to Palace. They've got nothing to play for and managed to overturn a 3 goal deficit. Massive bottle job by Liverpool, but Henderson's absence the last couple of games has been huge. You can easily see his influence on their game.

Rodgers needs to sort that defence in the summer otherwise next year with CL football they won't be able to finish in the top 4 I reckon.
