He probably just realised that he'll never win a treble, whereas every single other shortlisted player since FIFA took over the competition has done so (Messi, Ribery, Neuer, Xavi, Iniesta, not to mention the deserved Sneijder).

If Messi didn't win it in 2010, it would've been better for him, with that 'unprecedented' excuse now Ronaldo will equal him... Iniesta or Xavi for winning the WC would've been better.

or he noticed that he is ageing... jokes apart his headed goal was a very good goal imo...
as for atletico's tactics... they do defend but I don't think that they park any bus....

2010 should've been Sneijder's year, but that's a closed book now.

Why Sneijder? Maicon was Inter's best player that year... in my opinion. He was impassable, defense won that year.

Well, first because even though you might be right, as we've just seen again very recently, offensive players are preferred. Secondly, Sneijder almost one the world cup, apart from the treble.

Sneijder was a key player for Inter winning the treble, and both Diego Milito and Sneijder were their best players in the CL final.

But not only that, Sneijder also reached the World Cup final being a key player for Netherlands and also scoring very important goals. As a matter of fact, he was Top Goalscorer of the World Cup with 5 goals (same as Müller, Villa or Forlan) and he gave two beautiful assists to Arjen Robben in the final against Spain.

I also think that Sneijder should have gotten that Golden Ball
I TRUST IN ARJEN ROBBEN

Nobody managed to go past Maicon that year, he was also good going forward. Best fullback performance for years, IMO that coming from someone who would never put someone ahead of Der Kapitan. He was crucial in the big games against big names...
Netherlands had Robben too.

Mandzukic benched. This Torres deal will not be good for his playing time.
