From what some friends of mine told me the problem was the way they played. Despite the good results their fans were very unhappy with their displays.

It's not like there is serious competition in Greek league anyway...

Greek player banned for life for doing a Nazi salute. [source]

What do you guys think? Is the decision too harsh?

He was being immature, definitely. But, the life ban is also harsh. A big-ass fine and a season ban would've been more appropriate.

I'm Greek!
Jardim got fired because Olympiacos didn't play enough good! The president and the fans of Olympiacos "want to see beautiful football" attack-minded and Jardim was exactly the opposite so the president fired him.

About Katidis(nazi-salute) it was a bit harsh that he got banned for life... 3-4 years ban I think it's enough so he can think about the stupid! thing he did,you have to punish him so he can learn something, you have to teach him why he got this punishment so he can learn about, not to destroy his carreer, his dreams. The player said "I don't know what this means(about the salute)"
Of course you can't take it lighlty but in Greece either the Greek board of football and his team(A.E.K FC) nearly exterminate his career with all this bans.I don't think is the right solution.
The board wanted a player-example so they can punish him to send a message

To be precise, the lifetime ban was for the national teams. He was ban/punished from his team until the end of the season when they will review the case again.

IMO this was a harsh but rightful decision.

Nobody is THAT naive / idiot not to know what the Nazi salute means, so all that answer from him was just a cheap excuse.

Also somebody must keep 2 things in mind that helped to make such harsh decision:
1. The rise of a neo-nazi party in Greece (they got 7% in the last elections).
2. His team (A.E.K. FC) is a team originate from immigrants - even the initials mean Athetic Union of Constantinople (Istabul), so having a neo-nazi player would be a kind of paradox.

BTW don't forget that Effenberg got a ban from the national team for some years for a "lighter" gesture.

To be fair, the Nazi salute is technically performed differently.
*stamp*
*Hand's side on chest's side*
*shoot up like a rocket at 45-60 degrees*

His was technically just a hand raise.

That makes more sense. Especially when you consider the neo-Nazi thing you mentioned. I did not know about that.

The Strangest Football Shirt Advertisement
The BBC recently published an article that contains the two most obscure football shirt advertisements. They are both Greek teams one team, Voukefalas FC is sponsored by a local brothel whilst the other team, Palaiopyrgos FC is sponsored by a funeral parlor. Both teams have been questioned over their choice of sponsors but they say that it is the only thing keeping them out of debt and there are far more immoral sponsors out there. [source]
