Wait, you are not going to mention how INCREDIBLY tense the final day was?? Ajax was all set to win the title, they were level on points with PSV for weeks now, with a far superior goal difference. They only had to win away at De Graafschap (17th place, play off for relegation spot)...absolutely NO ONE expected Ajax to lose points at De Graafschap. Especially considering how De Graafschap had nothing left to play for, and need all of their players for the play offs, which start next week.

This is seriously the biggest league surprise in YEARS in the Eredivisie. Glorious to follow for a neutral today (as I am)...my eredivisie loving friends aren't so relaxed about it tho...

Mayhem in the Dutch league. FC Twente (Dutch Champions of 2010) will probably be relegated to the Jupiler League due to financial (and structural) problems. They announced it today, at the exact time when 4 clubs are still playing relegation play-offs. Short version: shit is going down about the timing, because this means that someone is now safe, while the club that was automatically relegated could still survive, if the play-off results are in their favour (without even playing play-offs).

Eventually both the teams that had to do the relegation play-offs (Willem II as well as De Graafschap) are staying up, even though De Graafschap lost their tie. Go Ahead Eagles are coming back up again.

In other Dutch news: Ajax have found Frank de Boer's replacement in Peter Bosz (ex-AZ coach, and known Johan Cruijff adapt).

They won the league and Super Cup last year, losing only 2 games, one of which was at home vs Ajax (although they beat them away).

In the CL they finished behind Wolfsburg but ahead of Man United and CSKA Moscow. They then managed 2 goalless draws vs Atletico Madrid and it took 15 penalties (8-7 to Atletico) to eliminate them.

However they did lose in a friendly against a Maltese team last January. :P

Made a whole post in the UCL draw topic :)

Wait, let me copy/paste it:

If anyone, ANYONE, knows someone who can help me get a ticket to PSV away, I will be the most thankful girl in the whole universe. And I will be forever grateful! BAYERN IS COMING TO MY COUNTRY!!!! Even though PSV are tricky opponents for us, I'm looking forward to the game! Finally Bayern will get coverage over here (The Netherlands are mostly Dortmund and Schalke territory)!

PSV have managed to hold onto most of their team from last year, who managed to win the league on the final day, because Ajax decided to suddenly have a draw with a relegated team. Seriously, no one expected Ajax to not win that game, the entire footballing country was both laughing and crying.

PSV are the only team last season, who stopped Atletico from scoring, even when they played a big chunk of their home game with 10 men. So definitely expect a fight in Eindhoven. (and I also mean that literally, as one of their midfielders made that horrible tackle on Luke Shaw last season) Their main strength up front is Luuk de Jong, who has some powerful headers in his arsenal. And for this season he'll be teamed up with his brother Siem de Jong (previous captain of Ajax), a talented midfielder who has had some terrible luck with injuries (twice collapsed lung, serious eye injury due to a finger in the eye...that kind of luck). Their goalie is imo the best Dutch goalie at this moment (I'd place him before Cillessen if I'm honest), and if I'm not mistaken, he was in the UCL team of the week quite a few times last season.

They do, however, miss one of their big defenders (Bruma), as he moved to Golfsburg.

That's the short version of what we can expect from PSV....anyone, ANYONE, who can help me with away tix, please PLEASE, come forward [-o<

Will try to keep you up to date with any developments within the team/club these next few weeks!

Proximity mostly (Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen are maybe an hour from the Dutch border)...and the appeal of the working class team, at least that's what I taste with my colleagues and friends who follow the Bundesliga.
