Belgian football

Postby tflags » Wed Oct 24, 2012 12:43 pm

I didn't know where to put this but I found this story quite interesting and did a small piece on the subject. Ilombe Mboyo is a 25 year old, Zaire born Belgian who currently plays as an striker for Gent. The guy used to kick balls with some other Belgian players most notably Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht. 'Petit Pelé' as he is called, however, has caused quite an stir of controversies recently; the eye of the storm focusing on his first break into the Belgian National Team.

The problem started when anchor Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku got injured and National Coach Marc Wilmots, on the brink of international week games vs Serbia and Scotland, decided to replace him with the least imaginable alternative, Mboyo. The controversy arose not from the fact that the African European has any problems kicking the ball; he wasn't called the 'rare pearl' as a youth for passing towels, but rather because of his quite troublesome upbringing. During his teen years the other Pelé was involved with a Brussels gang; a gang that committed a brutal mass rape of a 14 year old [can't find if it was a boy or a girl.] This heinous crime was so gruesome Mboyo was tried and sentenced for his part on the event as an adult.

While in prison in Ittre the Belgian was lucky enough to join a rehabilitation program called Football in Prison that existed at the time. The program allowed him to play with the Charleroi reserve team while he served the remaining part of his sentence; a team he eventually joined after serving only three years of his initial 8 year reclusion. After some transfer experiences couple with mixed performances the striker found himself receiving the most surprising of call ups, a call up he "thought it was a joke," quickly adding: "I could not believe it even when I got the phone call."

The controversial call up is said to be backed not only by National Team Kaptain [ ] Vincent Kompany who has voiced his plea for Mboyo, but also by Belgian FA president Francois De Keersmaeker. After all, Mboyo is a product of a rehabilitation program meant to turn lives around, lives that deserve 'a second chance.' On the other hand some might say 'what about the victim?' Do they get second chances?

I found the secret why there are so many young belgian talents.

Found this on youtube (don't judge me, but I found it hilarious).

Belgium U21 had to wait until the last 15mins to score a penalty to beat our National TM...
We had a man sent off just one minute before the penalty. The scorer from the pen was Tielemans...
Then we conceded a second goal

Belgium is very impressive since the turn of the 2010's... Senior headcoach Marc Wilmots (always loved this player, since watching Schalke 04 run and win 1996-1997 UEFA cup against Inter) did an excellent job, and they have an awesome generation...

Even when you look their youth teams they are having great results... Very impressive work! I'll definitely add one belgian adidas shirt to my collection...

I'm definitely pro-German, but i'll be rooting for Belgium after the germans in this Euro...
