They defeated us. After great first 19 minutes we took a lead 1-0, very quickly we got a penalty and missed. After that bye bye Osijek. :(

Austria were really good, but not that damn good. I think that Osijek didn't perform as they performed in the previous three European home matches. :| Still, heads up and wait for the end of the 2nd leg to see if we can turn anything.

Maltese player Andre Schembri scored Apollon's goal in the 1-1 away draw vs Midtjylland to send them through to the EL group stage and become (I believe) the first Maltese player to play in the group stage.

Utrecht and Ajax both out of the EL. Feyenoord the only Dutch team left in Europe. From next year the Eredivisie winners will not qualify for the CL group stage. So in the near future we can forget about ever seeing a Dutch team in the CL again, let alone win something in Europe. Sad seeing the demise of Netherlands football.

After exactly ten years of abstinence, Red Star Belgrade has finally succeeded at qualifying for the EL by beating Krasnodar 2:1 (3:3 agg).

However, 26 years ago, this club played semi-finals with our beloved Bayern, and while I am too young to remember it (I did not exist, to be precise), I got some valuable memorabilia from that match. This beer stein was allegedly a gift from Bayern officials to one high-ranking board member of Red Star:

They've reached the third qualifying round and that's a Maltese record but they never made the group stage.

However, I was wrong. Luke Dimech did it with Larnaca.

I didn't say the group stage. I said 1st round, which they reached and played in, going out 1-0 aggregate against Dynamo Moscow in the 2001-02 UEFA Cup.

Birkirkara are the only Maltese club to reach a proper round (excluding Intertoto)

All Croatian clubs out. Osijek were the only one who won yesterday, but still not enough for the group stage. All in all, those were great European qualifications from Osijek.
