This was always going to be a difficult season for the Bundesliga in Europe. We have/had with Freiburg, Köln and Hertha two teams in the EL who shouldn't be there, with Hoffenheim and Leipzig two absolute newbies (and I'm actually glad now that Hoffe got knocked down to EL by Liverpool, because I don't want to imagine their performance in CL given how they've performed in EL), and with Dortmund a team with a new coach which is in transition for the third season in a row. And then there's a Bayern that was taken backwards by Ancelotti.

There's no reason to despair. The EPL had seasons like that before. Next season we'll hopefully have two of Gladbach, Schalke and Leverkusen back in the European competitions, Dortmund will hopefully stabilize again, and Leipzig will no longer have to overcome the newbie effect.

I don't mean that it's a conscious decision to be content with mediocrity, it's just that they lack professionalism. And the reason is their club structures, especially the presence of "club legends" who are behind the times in important positions, hinder any kind of innovation or change.

Not that they are happy to suck, they’d just rather suck than do what they need to do to fix it.

Since you asked....(kinda ;) )

UCL -
Manchester United: W3, D0, L0
Chelsea: W2, D1, L0
Liverpool: W1, D2, L0
Manchester City: W3, D0, L0
Spurs: W2, D1, L0

UEL -
Everton: W0, D1, L2
Arsenal: W3, D0, L0

Overall:
21 played, 14 wins, 5 draws, 2 losses

Yes, because doing what they need to do would mean to remove said club legends and other dinosaurs who block any new ideas. Not going to happen because ordinary club members and the fan base will oppose it. Mind you, Bayern has similar problems, so no reason for becoming arrogant.

Well, just a few months ago a few users here were happy that Leverkusen and Schalke were out of the European spots because 'they always embarass the Bundesliga'. Guess what, they are saints in comparison to the others.

Side note: Hertha Berlin and Koeln played 3 matches each and scored just one goal each so far.

Until things change and clubs and fans (yeah I know it will never happen) accept what needs to be done, we may as well not bother entering any teams in European competitions, apart from us no matter where we finish, and even that's questionable at the moment.

Hoffenheim were seconds away from getting an important win in Turkey but they conceded a last minute goal

Koeln were miraculously leading at home against BATE but they conceded two in 5 minutes

Hertha is leading 1-0 at home against Zorya. I´m just looking forward to seeing how are they gonna mess up this game :lol
