Well this was a crap game - our worst since the Wolfsburg fixture, I feel. We lost the ball in defense often, didn't create threatening opportunities, couldn't win the ball back cleanly on a constant basis... and won from goals created through individual superiority. Really didn't understand Pep's plan here - he used Xabi and Schweini together with the narrow fullback system, which resulted in very little penetration up front from the second wave, so we always were blunted in our attacks. Not an inspiring game - Hannover (and Shaktar) need to be FAR better.

Exactly. We won, but it was not pretty. Despite having a high % of possession (the almighty possession), our attacks looked meek, midfield of Xabi-Schweini was suspect, and defense was Boateng alone. To me, this is the most frustrating thing about Pep... he is too stubborn. He refuses to admit that Xabi-Schweini doesn't work, and he'll keep sticking them out there together until he's proved right.

Dante was very lucky only to see yellow for that tackle.

My friend is a referee, and he text me saying straight red. Any challenge where the player is off the ground like that is wreckless and out of control. You cannot control yourself if no part of you is touching the ground.

I have no idea why the ref in this game would only book Dante unless he thought he had at least one leg on the ground.

A horrendous tackle from Dante and he was very lucky only to get a booking.

Another match to forget. Pleased that we qualified for the next round and that's it.

I've lost the will to type something about. I see some members already said what I also think and now I can wait for Shakhtar and see what's going to happen.

God help us.

Alonso is not the same of before the winter break... & tbh I don't see him being of great help if we are to play any big in the UCL... he is often lost, disposessed , easily dribbled...but I don't want to read to much into it...it was a training session. Expect the same next Sat... the players' thoughts are in todays week fixture.

Just a reference from the 2014/15 FIFA rules of play (P126).

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/footballdevelopment/refereeing/02/36/01/11/27_06_2014_new--lawsofthegameweben_neutral.pdf

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play unless
there is a clear subsequent opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send
off the player guilty of serious foul play when the ball is next out of play.

So, I think Dante is a lucky guy.

I am glad Dante got his playing time, there is no problem with him if we play against smaller teams which are not good enough in counterattacks. But you just can't use this guy against stronger opponents with players like Ronaldo, Neymar, Hazard, Reus ...
Benatia is always injured, Badstuber is not in form and he doesent have the confidence he had before. I mean just remember his long through balls, it was awesome. No he is just passing back to Neuer. Hopefully he is going to get his self-confidence back and become the beast again.

Xabi Alonso is useless last days. Why does he always play so hard passes but at the same time without any effect, he always finds someone who is alone between 3 opponents and instantly loses the ball. If he screws that pass and doesent find anynone, he doesent have the speed and even the attitude to get the ball. He is just jogging :)

On the other hand I actually like Götze's improving style of play. He hasn't played like 40 mil € player yet, but finally it seems he is playing what he needs to play. I think he is the best when he is playing CAM, supporting wings, looking for free space. In other words - he has to run instead of waiting for the ball and instantly losing it. He is not Thiago or Kroos to keep the ball and make the right final passes but he can run with ball, has a good technique, good finishing skills and potential to switch positions like he did in last matches (it makes him play a much better match).

And I am super glad that Alaba is playing LB. He was amazing even as CB or CDM but if Thiago, Martínez and Lahm will be fit one day, it would be stupid to have Bernat on the pitch.

Not that thrilled about the match itself.. But a great FK goal by Alaba and an very nice one by Gotze ( this is why Bayern bought him, to play knots in opponents legs, but still has a lot to show us to see him as a real positive )

I hope we get B04.. BVB, BMG or VFL in the next round at home..

I think Ribery is in a very poor form. I wouldn't play him against Shakhtar unless he makes a big progress next weekend.

In the parts of the match I watched yesterday he was good. The problem was that Lewandowski was being double-marked all the time and didn't try and do much to unmark himself. As a result Ribery fed pass after pass straight to opposing defenders after duping the right-back.

This wasn't exactly Ribery's fault. How many times, after dribbling the right-back, did you see Lewandowski or anyone else sprinting to one side in order to unmark themselves? They just stood like statues surrounded by defenders.
