I don't think there is a chance the Bundesliga will overcome the EPL this season. Difference after today's results stand at 2.635 (five year) and the Germans would need to make up for that difference on a stretched 2.214 point gap already. There are more UK teams playing at home tomorrow (2) than German teams (1) so don't expect their 4 do worse than Germany's four tomorrow. Again, I see this as a very tall order.

^ Agreed. We'll get a definitive picture once the EL return games are done.

Did you consider that five years ago EPL got way more points than Bundesliga did and this score will not be taken into consideration next season?

Here, the "real" gap is 0.3 points. :)

What are the chances of the English teams qualifying to the next round looking like at the moment? For the Germans it is not looking good.

Tottenham and Chelsea will go through. Liverpool have very less chances. Newcastle have a 1-0 lead and today play away. So they could also go through.
But in next round Totts will meet Inter, Chelsea will meet Ajax and Newcastle(if they make it) will meet Anzhi/Hannover. So anything can happen in Rof16 of Europa.

Also if Gladbach and Stuttgart make it through, they'll meet each other. Levante is the only side that I think will be a sure team in QFs.

If all EPL teams bow out in next round and 3 teams make it to CL QF, then we'll have a genuine chance of passing EPL.

Newcastle got a 0-0 at home. But still, its not looking good for our Bundesliga... I hope we will all advance in CL though.

Whoops! #-o

I remember they had kept a clean sheet. My bad! Even then they are better placed to go into the next round.

At the moment things look good on the UEFA Champions League side for German teams but on the Europa League side it looks quite unfavorable. Luckily the English teams dont have it easy with Spurs playing Inter Milan and Newcastle playing Anzhi. If Inter and Anzhi(since we cant rely on Stuttgart to beat Lazio) can take care of there English oppositions there will most likely be one English team in European competition this season pretty soon. If at least two German teams can make it to the SFs the Bundesliga should have a shot of overtaking the EPL this year and if it not next year for sure since the gap is reduced to about 4 coefficient points, im to lazy to do the math :P

UEFA Country Coefficient
Spain: 84.596
England: 78.535
Germany: 75.900

Sadly it seems like catching La Liga will have to wait till UEFA jumps of their nuts.

If German clubs can improve in the Europa league and another poor performance by English clubs im sure the BuLi can/will overtake the EPL. Last year terrible performances inthe Europa League by German clubs and great performances by English teams in the Europa League made it hard to overtake the EPL....

After dropping the fifth year ago, we will be almost dead even with England going into next year.

Is a win in Europa League awarded the same points as a win in CL? How did Chelsea gather more points than the CL semi-finalists?

Chelsea might have won more games than others in earlier stages, hence more points.

The clubs receive two points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a defeat in games of the main stage of the Champions League and the Europa League (group stage). Qualifying round results are only taken into account if the team is eliminated in one of the rounds (see table below). Otherwise, the qualifying round results are taken into account only for the calculation of the association's coefficient and are halved.[16] The clubs do not receive any points for elimination in the Champions League third qualifying round or the play-off because those teams move to the Europa League and receive points from participation in that competition. In addition, results of penalty shoot-outs do not affect club coefficients.[17]
Also, check the bonus points table for every stage on wiki! [source]

So wins in the group stage of both Europa League and CL is the same...What? :?

So Chelsea gets a chance for more points because they are able to get an extra 2 matches in Europa League?

* Sorry hate math, but it seems that by winning Europa League, you can get more points than the teams who made it to the semi-final of the CL.
Real has to defeat MU, Galatasaray etc... While Chelsea is beating teams (not easy but easier) like Steaua...
