I don't care much for this. We had won every home game prior to the final in last season's CL. The year before, when we beat Inter 1-0 at Giuseppe Meazza, they had been unbeaten at home for almost 3 years.

IMO we are close in quality and certainly capable of winning. I no longer fear Real Madrid and Barca.

Agree.

After last season, I only fear our own self-destructiveness! We can beat anyone, but can we beat ourselves?

I know that :)

They are still slightly better, but the difference is not big and I think every game would be 50-50. For some reason the football world still fails to acknowledge that though. :P

Real and Barca really aren't that great of teams -- last year proved that. Other teams, including us, have caught up and in some ways surpassed them. Things at Barca are changing -- they had the run of luck over the last several seasons, and its changing. Real had struggled for years and even went several years without a trophy and went through several coaching changes. Mourinho was a must for them to stabilize, and they certainly were willing to pay anything to get him. Real and Barca spend lots of money and HAVE to win trophies to stay afloat financially otherwise they end up like their own country -- going to financial ruin. Noone is going to save them. As mentioned, they tend to get alot of unncessary credit for being the role-model teams -- but I certainly don't think anyone needs to follow that.

I also hate when players dream of playing for them. If Bayern had only won the CL in 2010 and last season, then everyone would talk of us. Barca's success is mainly over the last few years as well, they don't have history like Real. Back in the 70s it was Real and Bayern. As mentioned by Sammer, Bayern are only missing that small something to make a difference. Barca have had players like Messi being their key ingredient. I think if Robben and Ribéry had been on top form over the last couple of seasons, then they would have been the deciding factor. We also need Schweini back on top form. So we aren't far off being Europe's elite team again.

Barca are just the team of the moment. If you look at history at every point there was a team dominating, and no one remained on top forever. Considering several factors, I think that Bayern are the closest to overtaking Barcelona as the next dominant power, but we're missing that small something.

It was Madrid at the end of the 1990's, and it was Liverpool in the 80's and it was us in the 70's.

Teams and football goes through phases with dominating teams.

I fear Barça because we don't have any chance of stealing the ball from them and I'm not sure how are we going to play in that conditions. We feel comfortable with the ball and we always play like that, but Barça are just the masters of possesion football.

In the last 4 years Barça won 2 CL finals and reached the semis twice. Only Chelsea and Inter kicked them playing an ULTRA DEFENSIVE football and they sweated blood to do it.

Our team don't have the players to play that kind of football against Barça. I don't think we can park the bus like Inter or Chelsea did.

We will surely have our chances to defeat them in Allianz, but Camp Nou is a very different story

We'd have to perfect our counter-attacks and try and press them high up the pitch. Kind of like Dortmund. It would still be very hard but I'm confident we have what it takes to beat them.

About the possession thing, you are right that we would probably find it hard to take the ball away from them but it would be a very interesting battle. Bayern have become much more possession oriented since the last time we played against each other.

I get the feeling that Madrid will win next year, and that Bayern will reach the final in 2014. I told myself right after the 2010 final that Bayern will make it to the Allianz in 2012. And I told myself after the 2012 final that Bayern will make it in 2014. Hopefully I will be telling everyone to go stick their favorite team up their ass right after the 2014 final.
