I agree that there are very good reasons to start our normal line up or to give Olic, Butt, Petersen and co a chance. At the end of the day, i'll be happy with whatever Jupp decides, although i think the main concern is weighing up the importance of this game with the Bundesliga fixtures surrounding it, as we can't afford to drop any more points at this time.

United's going to loan their training ground to us. If there's one team that wants City out of Europe (obviously not counting the Europa League here), it's United.
The ideal team

"For Ivica Olic the game against Mainz could be his last game for Bayern.
He is not satisfied with his role as a substitute, and he would like to change in the January transfer window!"

Thats what you get when you dont rotate your team, and why i want some benchers to start this "friendly" game.

It's anything but a friendly. There are five things at stake:

  • The bonus money you get from UEFA from every victory
  • The UEFA coefficients, both for FC Bayern (decides if you end up in pots 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the draw) and the Bundesliga in general (decides how many CL participants the Bundesliga will have)
  • The chance to knock out Manchester City, which despite their failures so far in the Champions League are still to be considered contenders for the cup and are certainly more powerful than Napoli on paper
  • Pride and fair play
  • The realistic chance of Mario Gomez topping the top scorers list

Off-topic but, as much as I love Olic (whenever he comes on the first thing that goes in my mind is always "I hope he scores today!") if this means that we will get a new good striker (Cisse?) then I am happy. Olic is simply making 0 difference whenever he comes on.

To be honest he isn't really being given a chance. Right now our system is built to accommodate Gomez as a lone CF, and as long as he's on the pitch, Olic can't play his natural game. It's a real pity, because with Gomez' goalscoring record there's no way we're going to change to a two-striker formation just to please Olic (hell, we already have problems with fitting Kroos and Müller onto the pitch).

Whether we play with a full-squad or a start with some of the bench players, I think that (1) we will win regardless :D (2) City will be knocked-out anyway because Napoli will, by all means, win that game against Villareal...

City being knocked-out is good because (1) as MilanFan said it will show them that money can't buy eveything and (2) as MUTU said they are still title contenders...
But having them around is also not that bad because they might end up paired with one of the biggies (Real, Barc, etc.) and who knows, maybe they can spring a surprise and eliminate our more direct titles rivals....

Also they'll be deprived of further CL money which will make complying with the FFP rules even more difficult for them. That's fun.

So while FC Bayern were beating Werder Bremen 4-1, Manchester City were doing some routing of their own, beating Norwich City 5-1. Here is a video of the highlights: http://multimedia.foxsports.com/m/video ... r_src=ramp
