2 of Zurich's players impressed me during these two matches: Their GK Leoni and their 18 year old LB, Rodriguez...
.....
Nice to have yet another clean sheet... Strong defense is almost everything to me...

Wasn't he the guy Müller easily outpaced to set up the first goal?

I loved the second half. If Ribery or Robben are injured we should switch to 4-3-3.

So 6 official games and only 1 goal conceded :D

He was part of the Swiss team which won the U17 WC... Good talent really

Today just a training for FCB (just because we go on looking really stable at the back =D> ), hoping Gomez injury is not that bad...
Because yes, I would like to see Muller as striker in the future, but not in this moment, as Kroos is not performing at all as 10
Still missing my dear Deisler...

I'm worried about Petersen. He seems like a good kid, and got much better ball control than Gomez. But I think:

  • he has poor balance and strength, he can easily be pushed
  • he has bad positioning
  • he has bad movement off the ball
  • he takes bad movement decisions whilst on the ball
  • he likes to complicate things for himself

The only reason why Gomez misses more chances than Petersen is that his positioning and off-the-ball movement and overall reading of the game allows him to GET into chances. Of course, he's trying to adapt to a new level and he's still very young, but if he's meant as the #1 backup for Gomez for the next 2 months then that's too weak. And that's assuming Gomez is OK after hobbling off with what seemed like an injury.

Heh, yea I was kind of skeptical of Peterson's somewhat dismal performance, especially as he is Gomez's # 1 sub!
He had one good movement and shot on goal, but aside from that he looked lost.
Of course he is adapting to Bayern, but we were playing Zurich.
I'm actually in favor of signing another striker now, Petric is sounding like a good bargain for our situation.

Good, long, German highlights.

Man, that goal was a beautiful, all German NT goal!
Neuer to Boateng to Schweini to Kroos to Muller to Gomez, und tor!
It's a shame Ribery didn't score with his impressive display in the second half and that we had to pull a Spain and win by only one.

We are linked to him in fact. Read more about it in the generic transfer thread though.

You're right Mutu, I did get my wish about Alaba and Petersen! And I don't know what to make of it. They both played like diamonds in the rough, showing brief glimpses of quality, but being largely average. It might be because the whole team was taking the game pretty easily, maybe. But if that's the best they can do, then, well, we do need better depth on the bench.

Right now we're beginning to ride our luck again. If Gomez goes down sometime in the next two months, then Petersen will be our only "pure" option upfront, and it's quite a gamble. The same situation is with our wingers. Müller moving to the flanks reduces our central threat, Usami still has to work on his physical fitness before he's ready for the Bundesliga, Alaba has not been any better than competent, Kroos is just too immobile and so far has only served to slow our play down. And Pranjic is only good for a cross or two.

Personally, I'd most like either Shaqiri or Reus. Of those two, Shaqiri would be the most realistic option, seeing as Gladbach are in good form and they'd rather not part ways with their talisman. Shaqiri would give us a whole lot more options regarding depth, since we saw in this match that Petersen and Alaba are not supersubs. In case of an injury to Gomez and either of Robbery, and Petersen continuing to be underwhelming, a 4-3-3 with Müller as a false nine would be a very good backup plan.
The ideal team
