Current Best 12 Teams in Europe

Postby Badger » Wed Mar 12, 2014 1:21 pm

I posted the comments included below in the Bayern v Arsenal thread. Nobody has pursued my point about the 12 best teams in Europe, but I’m since wondering which teams others would list. There’d probably be 7-8 on everyone’s list. What would your list look like?

There seems to be a lot of discontent with Bayern’s performance last night, and I’m wondering whether it is all justified and realistic.

Firstly, Arsenal aren’t that bad. I think that they would probably just make it into a list of the top 12 teams in Europe, and the only other teams Bayern have met this season which would also be in that list are Dortmund, Manchester City and (possibly) Salzburg. It would be nice to whop all those teams like they do week after week in the Bundesliga, but it is not realistic to expect that Bayern will do that every time, and a happy alternative is a comfortable or workmanlike win. Arsenal never really threatened last night; all their chances of progression were theoretical, and never that likely to be realised. Bayern were comfortably in control of the outcome.

Etc…

My current best 12 teams in Europe, in no particular order, would be:
Arsenal
Manchester City
Liverpool
Chelsea
Athletico Madrid
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Bayern
Dortmund
PSG
Salzburg
Juventus

Salzburg??

Napoli, Roma, Bilbao, Schalke, Leverkusen could easily take them down over two legs. Ok, Schalke, Leverkusen in maybe zone but still I'd give them 90% chances. Not everyone is Ajax. And our defeat to Salzburg shouldn't be a measure because we were trying out formations.

Plus Napoli would make my list at the behest of LFC. I have watched all LFC games and a shrewd coach can easily take them down.
LFC will be at 13th in my list. :P

All others are very obvious choices for top 12. :)

I respect their players and what they have shown to us,after all most of them have won everything they could both NT & club and I know what they can produce in a good day, after all they are on bad spell, they aren't a bad team,I see them as an injured lion :P
To be honestly neither Chelsea did anything to upset me with their football but they are a good team, capable of the best and worst at the same time.

I was Schalke vs Bilbao,I choose Schalke, well it was a list of 1min if we can disscuss it for a while maybe I could remove 2 or 3 teams instead of others.

In no particular order for me it would be - Bayern, Dortmund, Madrid, Barca, Atletico, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, PSG, Juventus, Roma

Not entirely sure about putting Liverpool and Roma in there because they haven't been tested in European competitions, but their domestic form is still impressive.

Bayern, Real, Barcelona, Chelsea, PSG, Atletico, City, Juventus, Arsenal, Dortmund, Liverpool, Athletic.

Underlined clubs will be future constant in Europe, top teams and candidates for unique Euro competition. United's period of decline can last for short, but under the current circumstances it can be last even longer.

For Dortmund it will depend how they gonna act on the transfer market. Atletico can last longer only if they keep Costa and bring another 3-4 very good players to strenghen their bench. Liverpool is still in trasition, Athletic won't ba a member but currently they're looking good.

There's an on-going ranking written by Sam Tinghe in bleacherreport that ranks the top 20 teams on the continent according to their form, results and performances over the past month or so.

From the article:
12. Roma 11. Arsenal 10. Liverpool 9. BVB 8.Atletico 7. Manchester City 6. PSG 5. Barca 4. Juventus 3. Real Madrid 2. Chelsea
1. Bayern 8)

Mine would be:
12. Roma 11. Arsenal 10. Liverpool 9. BVB 8. Manchester City 7. Atletico 6. Juventus 5. Barca 4. PSG 3. Chelsea 2. Real Madrid
1. Bayern 8)

I'd put Atletico ahead of Manchester City since they did lost against Wigan  And switch PSG and Juve's ranking. Juve is doing well in Serie A but PSG does too and they score more than 1 goal in their league games unlike Juve. Arsenal should be in the top 10 but Liverpool (just basing on their league performance) is better at the moment. And personally, the most entertaining team to watch in EPL.

ELO puts United above Liverpool and Arsenal? These should be the "HELLO!" ratings.
