I got a lot of heat (even though I was misunderstood...) for that "I told you so" remark a few weeks ago... But I'm gonna risk it anyways: I told you so! What I mean? I had a discussion with bastos - and others - here, saying that we are weak on offense... And yesterday's game showed that it is IN FACT nearly impossible to pull a trigger and all odf a sudden reach peak form and play great: we played the same shit we played against Frankfurt and Köln...
No, you don't have to score 4, 5 and 6 times every other week... And I wouldn't expect that... But if you take the lead 100 seconds into the game you have to push for the second goal - especially when your coach has a knockout stage record that reads worse than the Bundesliga record of Tasmania Berlin... Again: I don't expect us to beat every team up like there was no tommorrow... But all the usual empty phrases of "great team" and all that shit aside: it was Benfica Lisbon! I mean, there's WAAAAAAYYYYY better opposition in this tournament... If you can't put two past Lisbon, how are you gonna play against the real deal teams?!
What we witnessed yesterday was a missed opportunity, and say what you want: it's very likely it was also the first step to our elimination in this competition... 1-0 leaves me not very optimistic, especially considering our last away performances... (btw: is the grandmaster still the grandmaster after he **** up against Benfica? I mean, people WILL find excuses and all, but still... Good thing he's leaving for City -with not a single convincing knockout tie in 3 years, quite impressive - where he can spend hatever he wants... Maybe he'll even for once learn from his mistakes and actually improve... ;) )
The one positive to take from this game is that we didn't concede - even though we were begging for it several times (Bernat #-o )...

dambun wrote:Another annoying thing I saw in the match was the fact that it appeared as if every single attacking player of ours was playing solely for himself...

Except for the one situation where it was neccessary: Mr. Robert Lewandowski #-o #-o #-o
That must've been the shittiest pass ever - and there were quite a few yesterday alone...
We all know Costa is not the player he was in Hinrunde - but that's a phenomenon that's nor uniquely his, neither quite new in Munich... - but he is simply wasted on the right... He is NO right winger... By the time we got a right winger our game was already so much leaning to the left even Lenin would've begged us to stop..
Bernat is probably never going to lear how to take a shot EVER, and he should get a personal coach that tells him when to pass and avoid sensless dribbling, but he was actually decent IMHO (haven't seen the game on TV yet...)
Our strikers were actually pitiful because they were hanging in the air and completely left there... There was little to no movement in WAY too many situations and we're playing WAYYYYYY too much in the back... Which also increases danger of conceding... And IIRC scoring can only be done in the opponent's box...

1-0 is actually a better result for them than for us...

Not that i entirely disagree with you, but we did put 6 past one of Europe's best defenses in two games, didn't we? I don't know if it will or won't happen, but I'm hopping our form will come back between now and the semi finals, when it really matters. As things stand, it seems Barça peaked too soon, but Madrid is gathering pace. If our attack returns to form in time and we are finally able to field a proper defense, i think we have a fairly good chance to get the trophy. God I don't want Madrid or Barça to win it again...

For some reason for the return leg I can't avoid thinking about the 3:1 loss versus Porto, the only time in history that Bayern lost a game on Portuguese soil; but I hope these worries are unfounded.

It might be a case of looking for a silver lining, but a day later I'm wondering whether it's better for us that we got the result we did yesterday. The players are forced to wake up and actually play football next week and we won't get any of that complacency BS.

Our forwards will be crucial in the second leg. Although a 0-0 sees us through, we need to score more than defend. If we score first we are 80% through.

Yeah, we tend to overdo attacking in just one side in some games. That usually happened before when one of Robbery was missing the game...

But this game shows again our weakness in midfield more than anywhere else even if people keep mentioning defense and attack...

Our midfield was key to our 2013 success... consistency in that sector. But someone refuses to see that there is a flaw in his system... and in some players.

well, the good thing is that that game is fresh in everyone's mind...
TBH, I still don't think we'll face any problems in the return leg... But I would be really worried if we face stronger opponents in this form... Our team needs a wake up call... where is Uli Hoeness, really?

On the other hand, if Bayern just scores 1 it forces Benfica to score 3. Is Bayern good enough to score at least one goal and not allowed 3 against a team whose players' total value is almost 4 times less?

With this form, however bad it is, we kept 5 clean sheets in the last 6 games, as MUTU pointed out. We will not give away a 2-0 aggregate lead with more away goals. You guys are too pessimistic.

In fact, I believe that we will go through if we score a goal even if Benfica scored first. I wanted to be more cautious, scoring first would kill the tie but scoring an equaliser might not.

It seems a Bayern trait to let complacency seep into our play at this stage of the season.

Well, we never seem to be on top of our game against this type of opposition.
Last year our injuries broke our neck in the encounter with Barca.
This year will be different. I hope....

I was waiting to see a more aggressive Benfica, so I am really surprise with the way they played.

I think that they are very confidence that in Lisboa, they can score enough goals for advance, but I think they will get a surprise.

Bayern without rhythm, beat an unbeaten team and I think that they will play much better there.
