I am not really concerned about the effect of this fight for the return leg, if you ever played the game this type of fights during and after a game with such intensity are more than normal and usually they settle relatively quickly in the following days, the right coach and the right team can even use it as a unifying tool with the two offenders trying to prove themselves to the team the next time they get on the pitch.
But in the case of Ribéry and Robben, based on their big ego, their style of play, their personalities, it can be a problem in the long run. I posted here before how Robben was not by any means likeable in Bayern’s locker room which put in perspective with the incidents that know with Lahm and Muller (there might be others) makes you believe he is problematic; then you have Ribéry that according to many is famous for listening the coaching directions but doing on pitch the opposite if his ego tells him to you could see why Bayern is not that cohesive team that Dortmund, Gladbach or Hannover are.
Apparently the free kick situation was solved right on the spot when Lahm approached the group and told them Kroos was taking it.
Myself, a coach, I get frustrated by Bayern’s recent history of inconsistencies on what player takes the free kicks or even the penalties. The best way to solve this is on the training ground, before the game. Having the potential kickers trying from different places along the front of the goal aiming at predetermined target players or areas, then based on results determine who takes what. Besides Kroos, Ribéry and Robben I would like to see, specifically 3 other players that I am aware of being excellent dead ball kickers, having chances: Schweinsteiger, Badstuber and Alaba.
I had the opportunity once to watch Badstuber practicing free kicks and penalty kicks and he had a lethal left foot; I even remember him under Van Gaal taking most corner from the right as well as some free kicks.

Van Buyten should be our free kick taker anyway...

Oh no! He's probably the best header in the team right now.

It would be better if Schweini or Kroos took free kicks.

I've seen him take three direct free kicks this season. He scored one, and destroyed the ball in the second one (something I haven't seen in many recent years of watching football).

Really, it's amazing how big of a threat he is going forward.

Does anybody remember the last time Kroos scored from a FK?
Not since his Leverkusen stint right?

Perhaps Robben should try them more. He had one or two goals from free kicks last season I think.
Perhaps it's just tactical thinking from Heynckes. If Kroos takes the FKs, Robben and Ribery can roam freely around the box and threaten the opposition that way.
I'll paint any car for 3.95.

He got lucky as the wall opened up. He doesn't curve the ball like anywhere. Ribéry has had the best chance on free kicks as he hit the post once other than Robben who managed a goal from a set piece last season; problem was he meant to cross it, not score. Lousy goalkeeping as I remember it.

I do agree, van Buyten is a beast of a header. Ask Hart if you don't believe me.

Kroos does have good FK (and corners), and doesn't often look to score from them, but usually sets someone else up. Ribéry or Robben would have a better chance scoring directly from a FK. I think Badtsuber gave a few in the past and did quite well, I would say have him and let Kroos and Schweini stand around the D of the box for any deflections or when the ball gets kicked out so they can do their wicked kicks on target. Let all the attacking players be inside the box. But nonetheless I can see why either him or Schweini might give the FKs near goal.

Kroos apparantly scores all in training. Just when there's pressure he can't handle the freekick.
But I guess if teammates fought for you to take the freekick, and a fight starts because he takes the freekick, then there 500x more pressure also from teammates so it gets difficult to score.

Well, this post went to the wrong thread since the 'Instant Classic' thread has been erased... What, someone created an thread to post classic comments about the team??? The horror!
