Maybe subconciously, because I'm worried about Alaba vs Ronaldo. Maybe we should play Rafinha as RB and have Lahm mark Ronaldo (and hopefully later on Messi)

They are playing away to Barcelona in a match where they can afford to rest players (they are +6 with a better goal difference), whereas we play a tricky away match to Bremen in a match where we must win.

No, it's between the first and second legs.

Exactly. The first leg is on 17th April. They play Barcelona on 22nd April. Three days later they play the second leg.

This is actually great. FC Bayern play Werder Bremen on 21st April and will have an extra 24.5 hours to recover =D>

It seems with our whole midfield fit, one of Gustavo, Kroos or Mueller needs to sit on the bench. Seeing as this is the home leg, I'd rather go for a more attacking approach and probably play this formation:

I'd have Tymo in there beside Schweini.

With the real attack and our full backs tendency to be quite forward thinking, I think it's imperative that we have a dedicated CDM in there to just sit there and break down Real counters.

Advantages for Real Madrid:

  • The second leg will be played in Madrid. Statistically, more clubs who played their second leg at home have progressed to the following round. Hence, this is an advantage for Real Madrid
  • Their position in the league table is very good. They are 6 points clear of 2nd placed Barcelona with a much better goal difference. They can truly afford to rest some players ahead of either leg. On the other hand, FC Bayern need to win all their remaining matches in order to be virtually certain of winning the Bundesliga. Again, this is an advantage for Real Madrid.
  • FC Bayern have five players who are one yellow card away from suspension. Real Madrid have none, which means that their players can risk more in tackles and also it's unlikely that they will have anyone suspended for the 2nd leg. Especially considering the lack of depth in the Bayern Munich side, this is a clear advantage to Real Madrid.

Advantages for FC Bayern:

  • Between the first and second legs, Bayern Munich will play away to Werder Bremen on Saturday 21st April at 3.30pm. Real Madrid play away to eternal rivals Barcelona on Sunday 22nd April at 4pm. While Real will probably afford to rest players, there is more at stake than just a match. The rivalry is fierce, and Mourinho also has a point to make since he has only beaten Barcelona once in his two years at the helm of Real Madrid. It won't be a stroll in the park for Real Madrid, rest assured. Bayern Munich will likely be fresher for the second leg.
  • History plays a psychological effect on players. Real Madrid consider FC Bayern as a kind of bogey team. If this has any kind of effect on either set of players, then it is an advantage to Bayern Munich.

I'm really interested in what tactics Mourinho will use... he has played us before when we had a pretty similar attacking lineup.

Of course i'm expecting Madrid to try and mark players out of the game, but who??? Who will he deploy Pepe on to harass? He can't mark Gomez+Robben+Ribery out of the game so I think we will end up seeing Madrid park the bus and trying to hit us on the counter- and hit us hard if they get the chance. We are going to have to be so careful, but we've come away with the result against teams like Napoli and Gladbach (eventually) so I'm optimistic.

In spain in not goal diffrence decisive its H2H

That mean if Barca beat them, and they have same points at end Barca will be champion.

Yeah that's an advantage for us. I was hoping we'd play the first leg on the 18th so that the second leg would be on a Tuesday, but it's still an advantage for us

Thanks for this info! In the first round match, Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-1 at the Bernabeu. It will be tight at the top then if Barcelona win

That's another "Element": Ronaldo normally plays on the Left so Lahm will be against him and not Alaba.

Only because Ángel Di María was out injured for three months. Di María has recovered now and was brought on in the 55th minute against APOEL. Di María, as far as I know, generally plays as a left winger. This means that Cristiano Ronaldo will probably move back to playing on the right. But then, Mourinho knows best...
