find talking about hummels a waste of time to be honest, since the world cup hes been dreadful for the most part anyway

All I know is we just got to watch Martinez play minutes as a CM while Pep is coaching. This is a pivotal moment and must be celebrated!

When you'll realize that Martinez is a horrible CB it will be too late but fine... Let the one in charge take care of that.

Vidal had a great match, lots of interceptions, and kept the team ticking. Plus he filled in the Xabi role superbly until Robben went out, switching play from side to side exemplarly. You guys underrate him.

Also leave Holger alone, he's been back for a single match after like 6 months... ATM Javi and Benatia are preferable, but give him time to prove himself FGS...

It would have been the same if he made a WC performance. I recall bastos80 not being a fan of his, like some others too. Before that injury I wouldn't have swapped him for anyone... Not everyone is of the same opinion.

There's a nice article in Spanish about the tactics that Pep used in the game.

Holgi seemed slow but it's no wonder after he was injured so long. He needs more match practise. But now that Benatia's back, I'm not sure how much playing time he's going to get. :|

I'm sure he will get plenty of time in the Bundesliga. Not like Benatia is exactly reliably fit either, and I'm sure the manager will want to go into the knockout stages confident in his depth considering what happened last season.

It's ridiculous to rag on Badstuber like this. The situation came entirely from a lack of match practice - he didn't really commit a foul anyway, he just allowed the opponent to take advantage of him (he actually tried to dive in the penalty area, I thought), but a top level defender shouldn't allow that situation to arise. That's what Holger needs to work on, and games like these are the perfect time for them. He'll be back at top match form by spring, forbidding another injury, and be a hugely useful player in Pep's system.

That said, can we just field Alaba and Boateng and have everyone else take a day off? Those two can probably beat 11 players with ease.

I also think that the situation could have been prevented earlier... Badstuber is the weakest link at the end of the chain of events that led to the red card... I don't think that ball should've ever come there...

Our defenders look bad in a high defensive line like that... bring in anyone of the overrated CBs, they won't do any better at times. Badsy had his naive tackles even before... he's not the kind of defender that goes unpunished. Chiellini can go elbowing all game without getting a card but not Badstuber.

If he'd actually offer us something he wouldn't at CB without taking away the footballing genius of Alonso and Thiago, it would be.
