Homegrown is when the club created the player through their youth ranks. English football is in such a pathetic state when it comes to creating talent that the term homegrown has been lowered in standard that just being English in an English club can be considered homegrown.. :P

This is the third year in a row that we are matched up with City. I am getting bored of them personally, a change would be nice once in a while.

I'd say Homegrown is a player developed in youth system in a country where they play their professional football.

Götze is homegrown in general football terms, even though he didn't come up through our ranks.

I guess we'll agree to disagree.. :) I don't consider Goetze homegrown for that reason. It's not important anyways.

Benatia to score a brace.

Thats exactly what homegrown stands for, grown by that very club. and wtf, how come UEFA is letting that happen? thats a violation

LE:

http://www.uefa.com/news/newsid=943393.html
Season 2008/09: minimum of eight homegrown players in 25-man squad

• UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21. Up to half of the locally-trained players must be from the club itself, with the others being either from the club itself or from other clubs in the same association.

so 4 players grown by City needed

English football has really reached a nadir. The squad Hodgson has called up is quite bad, and the sad thing is that there aren't any big names missing or anything. With few exceptions, this is really the best they have.

And their best is frankly quite awful...

I'd fear Man City more now than the previous years. They haven't done any major changes to their squad and they seem to be working more as a unit. I think this will be the hardest City team we face since two years of group stage ties.
