Stoke star: I want to help Bayern beat Arsenal

Asmir Begovic has stated that he is a lifelong supporter of the Bundesliga giants, and wants to ‘soften up’ the Gunners when they meet this weekend.

Arsenal travel to the Britannia Stadium today aiming to add three much-needed points to their title assault.

However, the North London club’s record against the Potters has been relatively mediocre in recent years – with one of the hosts’ players more motivated than usual to spoil the Gunners’ chances of victory.

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has revealed that he is a lifelong Bayern Munich fan, and wants to knock Arsenal’s confidence with victory today before the Londoners head to Bavaria for the second leg of their Champions League tie.

“If we could soften Arsenal up, that would be great,” the Bosnian stopper is quoted as saying in the Daily Express.

“I couldn’t get to the game at the Emirates but I went last year when Bayern won 3-1. They were unbelievable.”

Begovic went on to explain his passion for the Allianz Arena outfit and admitted that he was cheering on the Germans against Manchester City over the last two seasons.

“I’ve seen Bayern at Manchester City for the past couple of years,” he said.

“Yes, I pay for my ticket. I was in with the City fans. I couldn’t sit with the Bayern fans. I mean Bayern fans are nuts, they just sell out of tickets so fast.

“I think I got spotted, a couple of guys took pictures. I keep quiet. If have to sit in the Arsenal end it doesn’t mean I have to cheer for Arsenal. I just keep my head down and cheer for Bayern – quietly – inside.

“My brother’s a fan as well so it’s in the family. They live in Germany. He was there at the game with Freiberg the weekend before.

“He’s 14 but not a season ticket holder because he has games weekends himself, he wants to be a professional goalkeeper as well.” [source]

Only problem is that he's a goalkeeper so he can't go KPB on their asses

Actually when I read the headline I did not recognize the name (and that he was a GK) and thought that this is what he meant. I thought it was terrible that anyone would consider that and I was angry.

Then I read the article and it all became better.

 Age is catching up on him.

Last year, Ribery and [Arjen] Robben were playing together and they were in great shape, so Bayern were really powerful going forward.

This year they still have an awful lot of possession, but I think they're less dangerous—I think we saw that at Arsenal. Even though we were playing with 10 players they didn't really create an awful lot. [source]

This has been p****** me off, the assumption that since Arsenal went down to 10 men Bayern should have scored more. Generally in these situations teams tighten up and defend, thus allowing the opposition less clear-cut chances then if they were still 11 vs 11. Who's to say that if Szczesny only got a yellow we wouldn't have put four past them on counterattacks?

Although at least we have a chance to rectify the situation

Well, last year he said we can't win the CL and look what happened. So I don't mind him speaking up :D

Let Wenger be. Anyone knows he's a sore loser anyway. However, this time he's actually helping us by giving our players that little bit of extra motivation to prove him wrong. :coffee:

IMHO, Wenger denies our brilliant game/team. Last year too when we visited he made such comments. Also, after we lost to them at home, he said that we won't win CL, blah blah, how Barca was the best team he had faced till now, how they would beat us if we met them, how we weren't a CL winning capable team, blah blah.

If only I had his number, I would have called him to rub it in after last year.

Pretty sure, he has something against us. :?

All the more reason I wanted Arsenal in Rof16. I hope we beat them with ease so that he shuts up for good.

4-1. A goal for Podolski would be nice. That's right, screw you Özil.

Arsene Wenger said last year "Bayern are not ready to win Champions league,Barcelona is by far the best team,Bayern is not of their level yet".
