Sometimes when I'm critical, I think to myself, "This dude has studied the game way more than me. He's won Champion Leagues, I've been runner up in a Rocket League tournament. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt."

But then I see how clearly there are weak points and they need to be addressed, and they're not... like I said yesterday, I feel his sub decisions was decent, and he tried to correct the situation somewhat. Let's just hope he's not stubborn and drops Alonso for ties like this.

Some for months. I concede that you have been saying longer than that, on the other hand I can't way for the day that Martinez is giving back a chance in central midfield. I invite anyone who could have doubts to watch a few 2012-13 games.

3 things we noticed :
1. Issues without the ball and no attacking threat
2. Alonso overwhelmed, Thiago impressive
3. Bayern not exactly terrible

I have no doubts that some people here can manage Bayern better than some coaches that we had / have.
How can one leave such a player on the pitch...
Or how can one field 3 cbs (one of which is a fullback) away vs Barcelona... ? I can still remember the shocked faces at the club as soon as we saw the starting line up... Bernat stating, Rafinha starting Alonso starting

Bayern Munich (3-4-1-2):

Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Benatia; Lahm, Alonso, Schweinsteiger, Bernat; Thiago; Lewandowski, Müller

Out: Ribéry (ankle), Robben (leg), Alaba (knee), Badstuber (leg), Rode (hamstring)

Can't say I agree. Yes, it's not a horrible final result. Yes, Atletico are close to invincible at home. Yes, many others have had similar or worse results there.

But that performance with the quality of that lineup is inexcusable.

Maybe there is cause for pessimism, considering Bayern's poor UCL away form and that the success of this year's season could very well come down to an away game versus Spanish opponents. I don't know if it is mentality or poor luck driving the bad away form.
Thiago impressed me in the first half, I am starting to finally see what some of you all see in his ball winning abilities. The only other positive is that my man crush on Javi Martinez is firmly cemented, player of the season so far if not Neuer. He did an excellent job against a dangerous looking Torres and I felt pretty confident in him during any one on one's with Torres.

Yes KHR, we should not make a big drama out of the loss. BUT we sure as hell should make drama out of that passionless, uninspired and characterless performance we put on yesterday. Yeah that seems drama worthy mr KRH...

Interesting enough little things can make a big difference in a game like this. Somebody a few pages back without even watching the game pulled out the guns and shot from the hips implying that Pep didn't do as bad and was right because Muller was taken off the pitch after 60 min of play this time. Well, the closets Bayern came to scoring with the game still 0:0 was Muller with a clever run inside the box and getting an excellent shot barely saved by Oblak, if it had gone in everyone would be praising Ancelotti now and proving Pep wrong, but it didn't go in and everyone moved to the next topic, this is normal when it comes to those little things.
The bigger things is Alonso's underperformance for 90 minutes and how the fix is a no brainer. Atletico breaks away with 2 or 3 players mainly through the center, that's how they scored against us last year and that's how they did it now. WE know that they are hard to penetrate so we will not have too many chances against them, but is it that hard to minimize the effect of the 2 or 3 chances with 2 or 3 players involved that they will create in a game like this one? For starters you need to facilitate the work of the centerbacks with a coverage in front of them: Alonso at this stage in his career can't provide that.

Coman wrote:What a game Thiago. Another big performance in a big game.
One great pass and ghost and 6 balls lost (4 easily)

Not that it would help much but anyhow the reality was quite a bit different. . .

"Speaking of Thiago, he was a lot better. Not only did he play the most passes up to his substitution (65/73), he also played the most passes in the attacking third (23/26). The Spaniard was similarly impressive defensively – as demonstrated by his seven interceptions and four successful tackles. The 25-year-old appeared as a smart playmaker and had more control over the match than Alonso did. His passes were purposeful even under pressure. Thiago’s decision making and pressing resistance are currently a lot more valuable for Bayern than Alonso’s playing style. Maybe Ancelotti should’ve trusted Kimmich this time, allowing Thiago to act as midfield anchor against the Atletico pressing."

From that miasanrot analysis posted earlier.
Kimmich
Kimmich - Thiago - Kimmich
Kimmich -- Kimmich
Kimmich -- Hummels -- Boa --Kimmich
