To be honest, I wouldn't take a lot of lessons from last night. The first half was sub-par. It might be the result of complacency (hopefully). The second half was lethal but was aided a lot by the red card decision. At the end of the day, we went there knowing that qualification was in hand and yet we still managed to come away with a big score. That's something very different from our recent years where we used to throw away the second game after securing a good first-leg score.

Arsenal with Koscielny : 1 goal.
Arsenal without Koscielny : 9 goals

Most underrated defender.
Bayern 3-3-3-1 build-up under Heynckes :
Neuer - Boateng Hummels Thiago - Kimmich Vidal Alaba - Robben Müller James - Lewandowski
Neuer- Boateng Vidal Hummels- Kimmich Martinez Alaba- Robben James Ribéry- Lewandowski

Koscielny is an excellent CB no doubt. Just outside the world class bracket.

I've had plenty of experience of them in my other life as a Hull fan, and I can confirm they are every bit as bad as the other two you mention. So much for London being a welcoming, international, cosmopolitan city. What I heard last night was disgraceful, prejudiced and offensive. I'm used to them being arrogant towards us peasants from the north of England, but I didn't expect such vitriol and hatred last night. I will say again it wasn't all of them but there were at least ten of them around me so I imagine it would have been going on in other areas too.

That Lewandowski move to go past Mineral and Koscielny in two touches... whew what control!

I just edited that last post. We are having too good a discussion on last night's game to enter another one about 1945 Germany. If you guys don't mind, stick to topic and carry any other discussions in their appropriate thread.

Not targeted at anyone in particular but I hope you understand we are trying to have a decent discussion here.

For me this is a no-brainer. It was a clear penalty as usually the replays don't show force. After all, they are showing the images in slow-motion which deletes physical momentum. In normal speed the camera shows Koscienly running towards Lewandowski and pushing him. On the replay however on slow-mo it appears as Koscienly barely touches him and a dive when Lewandowski wasn't even watching him but rather getting ready to shoot.

What happened with the red card (as I understood and later 'confirmed' by fox's announcer) was the assistant referee reminded the first ref to apply the last man rule; not the clear goal opportunity which would call for a penalty, not a red card. Imho.

In any case, I think the yellow card was enough.

I liked the game up to the 10". The team controlled the tempo and build up. Too bad Neuer didn't catch that monster shot in time. Bummer.

It wasn't a "dive" in a sense that Lewandowski intended to throw himself to the ground, but the moment he received the ball he made a choice: take the bait from Koscielny or go through on goal (which he might fail to finish). I am absolutely convinced he deliberately chose the former to take complete advantage of the situation, with full intention of winning the penalty. As I said, it was not a play-acting dive, he just made a classy decision.

Ours is 12-1 in Klinsmann's years. Dunno whether it's the record holder.
