See, i'm just not so sure that's a fair takeaway.
One could just as easily say "If Spurs had gotten the 2-3 penalties they deserved (and it's a fairly sure bet they'd score them with Kane), their naivety wouldn't have been a factor at all"
You can't really separate the two factors from each other.

Reality check for Qatar: [Quit Game] or [Continue Game]?

Glad at least one PL team was ousted.

I think two to three penalties is a bit much... And that one for Juve was also there - easily the most striking mistake in my book...

Well, there were a lot of half-situations for Tottenham that could have gone either way. There was a handball by Benatia in the 1st minute inside the box. There were 2 handballs by Chiellini inside the box. And there was a clear tug of the shirt in the box by Benatia.

The Juventus one was the most clear. But it was the only situation where the referee favoured Tottenham.

Then there was that situation where Barzagli jumped twice on Son's leg and then attempted to backheel kick him.

All in all, if I was a Tottenham fan I'd be furious at the referee.

How about that meter offside not whistled where Kane almost scored?

While it's quite generous to call 2 penalties in this game.
Which penalties? the ones for handballs?
Both are not intentional.
Benatia header hit his arm how could you give a penalty for that?
Whille Chiellini is sliding down and Kane still get the ball infront of the keeper

While Costa's penalty is quite hard to not see or judge.

If anything at all Tottenham got the best deal out of the refree.

Yes, that was offside but didn't amount to anything anyway. Unlike Higuain in the first leg where he was allowed to score after being in an offside position.

Valerio wrote:Both are not intentional.

What do you mean both? There were 3 handballs. One by Benatia, two by Chiellini. All three inside the box.

Valerio wrote:Benatia header hit his arm how could you give a penalty for that?

Look up Ismael's penalty conceded against AC Milan. Ball hits his knee and bounces to his arm that was crossed in front of his chest. The arm basically stopped the ball from hitting his chest. Penalty given. It was also in the Champions League. I'm just saying, because there are precedents for situations like that being given as penalties.

Valerio wrote:Whille Chiellini is sliding down and Kane still get the ball infront of the keeper

Chiellini threw himself to the floor and caught the ball. A sliding tackle with his hands. Just because Kane was able to get it through anyway doesn't mean the intention wasn't there. Why did he throw himself to the floor? Look up Alaba's goal conceded against Real Madrid, or even better the penalty conceded by Bayern in the 2001 Champions League final.

Also after the 1-2, Chiellini handled the ball again, around the 75th minute I believe.

I'm just saying, the Tottenham penalties weren't clear-cut, but on another day, with another referee, things could have been very different in the match.

Then anything goes. Talking about Benatia's handball after a minute...
About Chiellini sliding tackle he missed with the foot and hit it with the hand but intentional?

I missed the 75th one i'll check it out but honestly YOU HAD TO BE SUPER GENEROUS to give the Chiellini one.
I could understand if Chiellini blasted it away with his hand. Collateral damage and intentional or not would be quite hard to deny the penalty...
But that was totally unintentional and ball ends up to Kane infront of Buffon with Chiellini on the floor unable to do anything.
While Benatia is totally out of question c'mon! really you're asking for it? Ismael's what? when?

They should write clear rules either every handball is penalty. Always or like now there are factors like intention, distance, volume and so on.

Sorry couldn't find it, but I commented about it in this thread during the match. Then there was also this, so there were actually 4 handball calls in all :)

77 min: Lamela dances his way out of a tight spot near the right-hand corner flag, and whips into the centre. But Chiellini stoops to head powerfully clear. Then there’s a suggestion that Costa handles on the edge of the box while chesting down to control. The referee isn’t interested. Finally Son dribbles purposefully down the left, but his cross doesn’t find a white shirt. Better from Spurs.

These were given as penalties.

If these are given as penalties, you can argue that those against Juventus *COULD* have been given.

Oh you meant that?
I saw it but it was (if that's handball) out of the penalty area
