True, Götze was not that good, but keep in mind it was again not his desired position and we were not very good in the last third! Don't want to criticize too much but we also allowed too much spaces for them on defense...

We still need to get better for Wolfsburg and - especially! - Dortmund!

it was costa who played the through ball for rodes goal

Well he played most of the game as a CF/CAM , so I think he was in the perfect position. Nothing shining from him today, but the step-overs are much more effective when deployed in the middle, rather at the wings. He cuts through 1-2 players and passes the ball onwards.
"Normally Monsieur Candie, I would say "auf wiedersehen". But since what "auf wiedersehen" actually means is, till I see you again, and since I never wish to see you again to you sir, I say, goodbye."

I think Gotze wasn't effective because he was isolated in the middle. When he is playing with Muller or lewy in the pitch, he can combine with them, and use the spaces they open up for him.

Yes agreed Goetze seems like a fish outside the pond in that position.

These are nice and interesting games to watch, ain't them? It is hard to judge who had a better afternoon in a sea of backstories to chose from: From Martinez' comeback to Rode's resurrection to Kinsley's dreamly debut on the starting lineup (and score-sheet). And that's before getting to Costa's performance. Man what a player. If you thought he was getting praises for his work on the wings, his gig on midfield had me at "hello". Simply brilliant.

Where can you go wrong on praising this team? A couple of places actually. Bernat had potential nightmare at the back (quite a contrast on his work up front) and Götze. For Göd's sake. Is there actually a better (and more suitable) excuse for his performance than discussing he's playing on the wrong position? He's a 40 million or so attacking midfielder. He's supposed to be able to hold the ball for at least 8 seconds without doing something stupid.

But enough with the negative comments. Which actually brings us to the very last overlooked performance of the evening. Kimmich. Joshua F*CKING Kimmich. What a debut. Dude outran Costa, Vidal, Rafinha and Bernat. Hell, he outran anything with two legs yesterday. He passed the ball more than any other player not called a defender and had the most touches from midfield up. Despite his accelerated deployment, dude misplaced passes only four times giving Rode (and much of the team) a run for his money.

On the non-statistical front, he looked as comfortable in midfield as Schweini picking up a routinary trophy and as secure on the 5 as Fernandinho. Begs to ask the question if someone like Højbjerg were ever able to pull a performance such as this one for example.

All in all it was a very good performance against a seemingly weak (and yet unbeaten) team.

His player rating on
ESPN [source]
:
"MF Joshua Kimmich, 6 -- After a 60-second debut as a substitute last week, the German U21 international made his first ever Bundesliga start. A nervous Kimmich gave the ball away cheaply too many times in the first half but improved as Bayern strolled to victory." Amazing since the kid had like a 97% pass completion rate in the first half.

It's ok though. "DF Jerome Boateng, 7 -- Bayern's defensive leader is always highly motivated against his former club" Darmstadt

He did, however, annoy me once or twice as those were decisive balls... I think he was solid, but I'm not as excited as many others... Let him play a few more - he already knew Darmstadt - but played in a stronger team this time...
