If Muller is going to miss I think Jupp will use Thiago as 10 instead of James

At this point he is going to use any of the two Gerlands instead of Rodriguez.

Well if the saying is true that champions play badly and still pick up 3 points - might as well give us the Meisterschale just now!

That said, if we'd had a bit more luck in front of goal the final 20 minutes it could have easily been 5 or 6 nil.

If Coman isn't MOTM I'd give it to Hamburg's right hand post, two great defensive blocks at the end there!

Great win, a clean sheet and 3 points on an extremely difficult away game. Champions know how to scrap a win out.

Man of the match:

Corentin Tolisso:

1 Goal, 95 Touches, 87% Pass accuracy, 2 Key passes, 4 Tackles, 3 Interceptions, 2 Clearances

Improvement in the 2nd half, we scored that super lucky-ugly goal and luck punished us losing clear-cut-team-effort chances... Shame!

The pitch state was embarrassing and played a big part for us playing so crap combined with our brainless and less technical CM duo the outcome was disgusting. James was neutral, not bad not good compared to Tolisso or Vidal. One of them should be subbed off and not James, granted that Thiago's entrance was beneficial.

From today's game Heynckes should learn that Vidal AND Tolisso shouldn't be BOTH starters ever again, the result of this idea with Thiago on bench was a disaster and pain in the eyes. James should get more chances to prove himself while Muller and Robben could share the RW role for the next 2-3 games for James to prove something if not then... ok.

Coman is making an impact but he is brainless, just muscle, speed. His technique is average and his finishing as well, he is in the right track though, he runs and covers endlessly and he tries to improve his decision making but still his biggest advantage is purely athletic. Work Kingsley, work harder and you'll become an indispensable member.

So far so good for Jupp, we already catch BVB and we have straight clean sheets! More than I expected, two very important games against Leipzig and I hope that Martinez will be ready.

Coman is definitely man of the match.
I found Tolisso disappointing especially in the first half, and wanted Thiago to come in instead of him during half time.

We missed lots of chances

Seems a bit generous imo. He did absolutely nothing in the first half

Stunning just how much this team needs Thiago....
and the Tolisso/Vidal pair is a fail.

In any big game, should be either Thiago-Rudy or Thiago-Javi. Whenever Vidal or Tolisso plays (or both) there is simply no control in the midfield, all chaos, it doesn't work well for us.

Although it was a poor performance we deserved a better result. Lewa was unlucky not to score 1 or 2 times.

No worries, we got the points we needed. I bet we wouldn't have with the same performance 3 weeks ago.

More seriously, I think we only tried this midfield because we were in a bit of a tight spot after Javi's injury. I'm willing to be that any midfield paring that includes Javi or Thiago will do a great job controlling the midfield, but Javi injured and Jupp was trying to rest Thiago for the big games coming up. Rudy might have added a bit of control, but Rudy+box-to-box midfielder pairings haven't had a good track record. On the other hand, Rudy+Regista pairings(and quite possibly Rudy+Javi) tend to be incredible, but Thiago is the only other Regista available at the moment, other than possibly Kimmich.

Playing Rafinha at RB isn't the end of the world, but moving Kimmich back into midfield might harm his development, and it doesn't seem like a Jupp thing to do.

Did you see Coman's pass to Lewy? The lob? Believe me, any brainless player can't pass like that.

He was already stepping up with Carlo. yet, Carlo never played him with continuity. Jupp is a demanding coach unlike Carlo, l see an improvement with his passing. he is ending up positions better now. l hope he improves further more.

James struggled with tempo and aggressiveness of Hamburg. he almost did nothing. Same goes for Tolisso for the first half,he also did nothing however he improved in the second and scored the winner goal. James must deserve his chances.

we missed too many chances.

l think Rudy-Tolisso can be much better than Vidal-Tolisso though Rudy should take more responsibility.
