Fortuna Düsseldorf vs Bayern Munich

Fortuna Düsseldorf vs Bayern Munich
Competition: 1. Bundesliga
Venue: Esprit Arena, Düsseldorf

After the international break, FC Bayern will be playing against newly-promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf with probably more motivation than they would have expected: should FC Bayern win, they will set a new Bundesliga record for the longest winning streak from the start of a season.

In this match, there will be the expected return of David Alaba from injury, providing that there are no complications.

This should be a straight forward win for Bayern and I would love to see Alaba back in the starting XI!

I hope Gomez might come back early since Jupp said he would be ready late October to early November....

I'm going to be a wee bit cautious about this game.

We've got 14 players on international duty, and they'll be tired. We're also up against a team away from home who've had a great start after promotion. We need to be careful.

Yeah, like I said in the other thread, if you underestimate Fortuna at home, you're in for an unpleasant surprise.

We usually come strong after the international break, especially if our guys got favorable results for their countries. I think we've learned more than enough lessons the entire last year (and a week ago) about underestimating the opponents, so I doubt this would be a problem from now on. Plus, our players have already set their eyes on an undefeated campaign, so there goes another motive for giving 100%.

Let's make it 8 wins out of 8 games and make a new record for the most wins at the start of a Bundesliga season (also end the Dortmund curse of 7 wins).

This might turn out to be a tricky one... most of our players will be tired of playing for their respective National teams + travelling back to Munich + going to their Stadium... And we won't have more than a couple of team training sessions... On the other hand, their team will be absolutely fresh.... resting and focusing on our game-plan for the whole 2 weeks.... Add to that the fact that they have a relatively good defense line... We should be aware of the threat or it might be trickier than expected...

Do we get additional points for predicting a pitch invasion; á la promotion final?

Yes, but with negative marking if you predict it happens but doesn't.

Alaba is coming back. We might see a change in the backline with Bads starting with Dante (most probably). Robben should be fit by then. Gustavo would be fresh.

I think the 'tiredness' factor wouldn't affect that much seeing that Jupp could sub in at half time.

I say a win, may be a hard fought one but a WIN! :D

I always get worried about matches against recently promoted teams and table bottom-dwellers, as historically Bayern seem to play down a level against these types of clubs. Still, the current FCB squad is very deep, so if we have some tired legs on the pitch there are plenty of strong subs. I hope Alaba gets a chance to play, for sure.

I'm guessing it won't be pretty, but I'm betting on a narrow Bayern victory.

I fear this team for some reason. I get the feeling that we'll lose or barely draw and everyone will be praising their rigid defense and their coach will be nominated to replace Heynckes at the end of the season.

They are not at the bottom, they are at the top. Plus, they have the best defense in BL after us. So, I am pretty sure we won't be underestimating them.

I didn't say they were at the bottom, they are in the recently promoted category BUT Bayern play down a level against teams like them AND bottom dwellers. Either way, we agree it won't be an easy match and I agree with you that Bayern won't underestimate them.
