I agree that Muller is nearing top form. He looked much better during the winter break and hopefully he can finally play in the center consistently again. He's also started scoring again, even if it is against weak opposition.

Kroos on the left isn't a good step IMO
he has excelled in the centre I don't see any reason to play him on the left
and In Al Ahly match he wasn't good as he has been in the middle toward the end of the first round

I hate this formation. I don't rate Jupp very highly anyway. For me Boateng-Badstuber should the CB's. This is horrible.

Simply because you have Boateng ar RB & Tymo as RDM & both of them have 0 creativity. That kills the right wing. YOu can't expect Robben to drop near the penalty box & play 1-2's with Neuer. The other bit I dont like is Schweni at LDM/LCM & Tymo at RDM. With Reus as the main threat at RW,a more defensive mid-fielder should have played at the left since Lahm & Ribery attack relentlessly.

Gustavo- Schweni would have been awesome or play TYmo at the LEFT.

DOn't you find it stupid?? Boateng 0 creativity. Then Tymo both on the right, kills off that flank while Reus the main threat is on the other flank.

I just have no idea why you keep talking on and on about how he's ruining Robben. Robben is a sledgehammer of a player, with monstrous pace and incredible dribbling ability. But footballing intelligence... is not his forté. He's not a creative player anyway - he's there to smash through defenses with brute force. And right now, he has the worst tactical discipline of our attacking players (well, apart from Usami... who also happens to play his position). Why put an extremely attack-minded player in Rafinha behind him in a system based on possession and disciplined defending?

(I would like to add that I also would prefer Rafinha behind Robben simply because I'm an attack-minded kinda guy. But it's very easy to see the reasoning behind Jupp's decision)

Besides, it doesn't matter anyway. We play best when our attacking midfield is interchangeable. In those games, Robben plays in the middle just as often as on the flank anyway.

I agree. But unfortunately, Bayern has no alternative in the bench. Maybe Pranjic can play in the left, but Heynckes never use him...

Boateng 0 creativity??? jajaja.. Forget that. A defender doesnt need to be creative, he has to mark the opponent, preventing the opposite to attack. He most anticipate an incoming threats.

I agree. It's good sometimes IF a fullback can attack AND defend, but the main responsibility for a defender is to defend.
But for this specific issue, as I said many times before, I prefer Rafinha as RB and Boateng as CB, simply because Rafinha is a better RB than Boateng and Boateng is a better CB than DVB...

As for our formation, it's the one I expected. I agree with Mr. S that Rafinha would have been the ideal choice, but I'm not worried anyway.

I agree. But I read that Heynckes use in the defensive line Boateng, Badstuber and Van Buyten together, because they are tall and they can defend an air attack, instead of Rafinha, because he is small.

And for me also, Rafinha can be a better partner for Robben than boateng in the attack.

Maybe Don Jupp doesn't want to risk it in the set pieces as both van Buyten and Boateng are way taller than Rafinha. Air superiority is a factor to consider both ways.
