As a slater of Bernat, I totally understand where the people who are defending him are coming from. He's a backup and wouldn't play our biggest game if our squad is fully fit, definitely, and he's not a terrible player (I've said he's shit before, but that's for Bayern's standard).

The thing is, across the board, he does even less on the left than what Rafinha does on the right in my really honest opinion. And when you offer less than Rafinha, that's a problem.

It will help you when you stop confusing my dream scenario of seeing Alaba in midfield with the reality that I am not the coach and that the actual coach is not playing Alaba in midfield. The rest of us offer solutions based on realities on the ground, not on another fans fantasy. The reality is that Alaba is not a midfielder right now, so stop acting as if my wish that he was a central midfielder makes any difference.

He criticized Lahm alongside Bernat so it means it's nothing personal.

It DOES!
Because that means we would need another starter on LB... And Bernat is not a starter... At the very least not yet...

You are literally confusing what I would do with what the reality is. I'll give you some time to figure it out, but I swear to you that in your quest to talk shit about players that are giving their all for the club but are limited in their talent, you are mixing up several different scenarios in your mind.

Spoiler: show
Pyrasur's fantasy: Alaba in midfield because he's awesome and would be a fantastic central midfielder. No where in my fantasy did I address how the left side becomes weaker, nor say Bernat becomes first choice left back.

Reality: Alaba is the first choice left back, our second choice left back (Bernat) fills his spot (amazing I know but #2 slides into #1's spot in his absence)

#12's fantasy: Imaginary and unnamed left back that is Bayern quality but willing to be a second choice left back rather than a first choice at a respectable club (? because I am not certain if you are now adopting my fantasy that Alaba is being moved to central midfield and is not considered first choice left back, because I don't see any other reason why you are using my fantasy in your argument) replaces Bernat. We all await with bated breath for your nomination to this position rather than your normal modus operandi of waiting for transfers to be proposed to you and for you to declare them shit.

No, it's the other way around... ;)
I never said we would need another LB, assuming Alaba stays in LB... In that case, Bernat is just fine as a replacement...
If it's the "shit" that bothers you, fine, then he was "not good" - better now?

I was wrong about one transfer - and I admitted that like 100 million times already... And said transfer was great but is also struggling with his form currently... Just saying...
The other shit transfer is Tasci, and as you probably noticed, even Guardiola does not deem him good enough to play anyone (but Darmstadt)...

Also, we have a backup goalie that was first choice last year with WAYYY less prospect to play... ;)

Promise: if he gains in form (around the time of that 7-1 in Rome he was actually decent...) again, I won't say he's shit anymore... :P

Bernat is not shit at all. He has a lot of pace and dribbling ability. He lacks precision, but so does Costa and I don't see many saying he is shit. The problem is that Pep designed a system with Alaba and Lahm's characteristics in mind and, frankly, we would have to thinking really hard to find any other FB capable of fitting in that role. FBs in our system need to be part time defenders and part-time central midfielders, and Bernat does not fit that role. In another system Bernat would probably do quite well (last season for instance).

You might have a point... Another thing is - and some may have noticed - that I have a fetish :P  for defense... Not that I don't like scenes in the box on offense, but I have always thought a solid defense is more important than the best of offenses (also: that's where we could beat Barca, defense) - and the thing that makes ME so frustrated about him, is that he loses too many balls in crucial, hurtful situations, when the whole team is in forward movement...
