Werder Bremen hardly crossed the halfway line today. Under such circumstances it is practically impossible to counter.

We scored three by coman beating defender and crossing, one from a corner and one from a mistake from their defender?

Yes, but isnt the whole idea with peps tactics to push the opponents deep into their own half?

The whole idea is to dominate by attacking all the time. You can only attack all the time of you have the ball all the time.

If you're attacking 80-90% of the time like we do, the opponent naturally hides close to their goal, which makes counters impossible and makes penetrating difficult.

It's just baffling when the question comes after a day in which we won 5-0, and scored the majority of our goals by dominating possession and swinging the ball from side to side. On top of the fact that the team has gotten better and better at exploiting the counterattack over the past three years, and scored a pair of goals off the counterattack as well.

When we score after a cross it's usually because there's a big process behind it. It's not as easy as just put the ball in the box and Mueller/Lewy will put the ball in the net. That would be predictable and easy to defend for the other team

By having the ball we move the other team from one side to the other creating the gaps that Mueller or Lewandowski will find to receive the ball and score. Chasing the ball is also frustrating and make your players tired, that's why we usually find it easier to score in the second half.

Also having the ball means that the other team will mostly have less chances to score. If we play just crosses we would be giving the ball away all the time

And for a big team is usually difficult to play counter attacking football, because smaller clubs are always going to have a deffensive approach / park the bus.

Playing with inverted wingers simplifies most of this process, because the defenders dont know if Ribery or Robben will cross the ball or cut inside for shoot. Actually Ribery mostly cross, while Robben shoot by cutting inside but despite they abuse with the same, the defenders cant stop them in the process.

Costa and Coman can be inverted wingers but they have to use more frequently their weak foot.

About having the ball for give less chance the opponent for attack is true, thats why Pep emphasizes in possession, but for success in possession, Bayern need to have the capacity for recover the ball quickly, something that Bayern is also doing very good right now.
Super-Bayern! Super-Bayern! Hey! Hey!
